Not sure how they know this, but Nick and Isaak on Locked On Mavs said that tampering is out the window this year and that they think deals are already done.

The league may have unofficially told the teams to START the free agency process behind closed doors so as to save time and get things moving so Dec 22 can happen for the start. The owners and league officials 100% want the money that comes with the pre-Christmas start. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nb...037844002/ 6) Haliburton 8) Hayes 10) Vassell 12) Nesmith 13) Achiuwa 16) SBey 18) Hampton 19) Maledon 26) Bolmaro

If I'm the Mavs and I'm drafting for future upside, I've got a good feeling about Hampton.
I could see the "unnamed target" being Hayes, for all the reasons Kamm has pointed out. But, I could ALSO see Hampton being that guy. I'd be just as excited about him, and maybe more excited in terms of fit (though I'd bet he's less ready to contribute right away).

I wonder how excited the "trade up" faction around here would be if HE ended up being the prize. I wouldn't hate the pick at #18 (definitely wouldn't love it, either) but I'd lose my mind if they gave up an asset(s) to move UP for him. I sure hope this is the Mavs creating this buzz, planting the idea that they like Poku to get others off the scent. Quote:Analytics departments like Killian Hayes, who's received interest from point guard-needy teams like the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks, but also the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings. If true, you probably have to get to #6 to get Killian. Quote:A source suggests the Washington Wizards are hoping USC's Onyeka Okongwu falls to them at No. 9. If he isn't there, they'd be interested in trading the pick. Add one more to the trade options: #2 #6 #9 #10 #14 (10-29-2020, 02:53 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I'd lose my mind if they gave up an asset(s) to move UP for him. Who teams meet isn't a secret, players and agents will leak it anyway. Why not tell it to a reporter so he owes you a favour? They could target one of the two, but will meet with 5 guys from top 10 and it is up to everyone to guess. They simply can hide who they like, but they can't hide who they meet (10-29-2020, 08:36 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: So, Jalen Brunson type of guy?

There are two mouthpieces through whom the Mavs communicate publicly. When they want something to be taken seriously or they're giving us something REAL, they go through Marc Stein. Definitely not Cato (so far) or McMahon (ever - I think they hate him). When it's false, deceptive BS, or when there's ANY amount of that mixed in, they give it to Fish. That's his role in the machine, from THEIR perspective. That's not to say that nothing he writes is true, or nothing he writes is of value. But, he depends on the access to info they give him. He's not a guy with sources all over the NBA community, like Stein or those other guys. In that situation, he has no choice but to run anything they give him out there for us to consume. Getting "used" a little is part of that business model, and almost every team has someone like that. Go follow "NetsDaily" on Twitter for a week and tell me he's not "New Jersey Fish." That's just one example. I hope it's clear from the above that I don't mean this as a harsh criticism of Fish. He has made a career out of the situation, which I think is pretty cool. And, I 100% promise you that he's aware of his role in the "circle of Mavs life"...I'm not suggesting he's a hapless accomplice. I think part of the reason he has shifted more to the Cowboys side of things is that his role in that universe is significantly different.

I know it's a stereotype at this point, but if Dallas trades up I really do think either Avdija or Hayes is their guy. They fit the profile of the highly skilled foreign players that Dallas simply understands and utilizes better than everyone else.

Btw acting like you really care about your pick, even have a higher target, also "increases" the trade value of your pick. No more cheap 1st round pick(up)s from the notorious draft haters from Dallas. We now love the draft.
Also trading up means giving up assets, so a smart way to say: hey call us, we are willing to listen.
