I know it’s a small sample size but what he did in the finals run was top 5 center in the league stuff. Personally I can’t wait to see him healthy again and playing for the Mavericks, even if it takes another year or so, it is worth the wait.
See, this is exactly how I feel.
I'm not too proud to admit the following, however: We've spent so much time debating the likelihood of Lively ever being healthy that when someone suggested the other day a third option wherein he was healthy but with downgraded speed, quickness and athletic ability as a result of the injuries I realized I had never stopped to ponder that potential outcome. It scared me a little.
Ultimately, I'm pretty content (for now) to trust what the Mavs think, given how much more knowledge, experience and insight they have with things like this, so I'm curious to see how things proceed from here.

Man, thanks for posting this! What a great read!
This is not a suggestion about his NBA readiness, but what strikes me about this is how mature he is for his age. Seems like a good dude to me.

Man, I don't know if it's because I think they'll be good players in the NBA or if I'm just used to the Mavs having almost exclusively not valued the draft every year for basically my entire tenure as a fan, but I'm pretty jazzed by the four guys they got. Hell, I'm jazzed just that they GOT 4 GUYS, even.

I'm with you. Cuban dismissed the draft, and it's great to be in the opposite world now.

Absolutely!
The single biggest thing to the Mavs being contenders sooner rather than later is Lively playing in basketball games. Being as impactful as he was his rookie year. His lateral quickness, explosiveness, and athleticism make him incredibly effective. Hopefully the multiple foot injuries don’t keep him from having those special qualities/ability! He can be a real game changer like you say!

He's like an old girlfriend. Had some good qualities, had some bad ones.
But it doesn't matter now.
Move on.

If we must use such an analogy, he is like some old girlfriend who seemed attractive when you first met her because you had never had a girlfriend before but over time she became fat and depressed and abusive and then when you tried to break up she stalked you and generally made your life miserable and now she got on drugs and got sent to rehab so she doesn’t stalk you anymore but you still have a dream once a week that she’s coming over to pay a visit.

Regardless of which type of ex-girlfriend Cuban is, talking about her all the time only serves to let your friends know you're not over her, and possibly never will be.

How about no until he admits he was an idiot to believe he had basketball expertise and therefore failing to listen to his basketball men rather than trusting his completely inept armchair GMing? How about no until he apologizes in complete humility for screwing up Nash, Giannis, round one of VAJ, etc. rather than listening to the competent basketball men he had working for him? How about no until he apologizes for hiring a narcissistic and probably racist (anti-Euro) shoe salesman so that he could continue to play real world shadow GM with a franchise which Dirk and Luka had given their blood sweat and tears to and to which fans of equal basketball expertise to his had dedicted enormous amounts of time, money, and emotional investment? I could go on. I’m not asking for a pound of flesh. I’m just asking for recognition that his attitude and actions were completely and binarily wrong. Until then, there’s no reason to drop it while he is still showing up in Mavs-related news where he absolutely doesn’t belong.
This is one of the reasons I sometimes get a bit antagonistic with you - at times you come across as defending the binarily indefensible - or, what would be binarily indefensible to nearly 100% of committed and knowledgeable Mavs fans.

To really get over her, she needs to stop coming around and acting like she was the best thing in your life when for over a decade she made your life a living hell.

If Cuban is an ex-girlfriend than I'd like to dedicate the song I Used To Love Her by GNR to him.

We can substitute Lively with AD in the first line and know that he can be an All World NBA player when healthy, but the thing is he is never healthy these days. At least AD had a good run at some point in his career. Lively is young and has already been injury prone. At what point do you say, he is not dependable than continue to make excuses?
As for waiting another year, the Mavs have no choice because his value is low, but I am not holding out much hope for him. Even if he comes back one or two years down the road, he'll most likely get hurt again fast.

The Mavs might just be lying about his health you know, not try to depreciate an asset further.

The crazy part was comparing on-court Lively to on-court AD. Speaking of top 5 Centers... Davis is what they look like.
