Regarding Klay, we tend to think in terms of a trade having to be done before the season starts, but a $17mm expiring contract has value at the TDL too.
To this point, If I'm a team who wants Thompson, it's tough to convince myself I'll have to trade for him if Dallas has to get rid of someone to get to the roster limit. I think you're probably correct that Cisse would be the one cut if another move doesn't come (unless Thompson has expressly stated he wants to be somewhere else by the start of the season), but man...I'll be disappointed if Cisse isn't on the roster.

I like Cisse also and want him on the roster. But part of his charm is depth in a scenario where Gafford isn't on the roster. If Gafford is here, we have Lively, Gafford, Aldama and Rez who can all log minutes at center without getting to someone whose play at center would be qualified as 'small-ball'. The flexibility of a $17mm expiring deal at the TDL is more valuable longer term than Cisse IMHO.
To Chicago's point, we haven't spent anything on Cisse and we do have (air quotes) 'deadlines' after which we've burned some space under the tax. Some of the early reporting was that we've already spent that first million, but Spotrac says no.
I could actually see LAC as a potential home for Jovic and they have the TPE to absorb him (but not large enough to absorb Klay). But, it doesn't appear they are going to do anything anytime soon until the Kawhi thing is resolved. In addition to the TPE they have, there is room to take back over $15mm of unused trade match capability in the Kawhi deal and they are far enough under the tax to use that capacity and the full TPE. So, I tend to agree that Kawhi may be holding up some things - whether for Dallas or not is another question.

What would royally stink about cutting Cisse is that then we *have* to keep Gafford.

It´s basically Manchester City all over. Every other football club with 1 through 6 charges in England has cooperated and accepted their penalties swiftly. City sitting on 120 charges lawyered up with all their UAE money and said TOO BIG TO PUNISH. Because everybody knows they cheated, the EPL now looks for a way to not look like powerless losers, while also pleasing one of their most important sugar daddies. Oh those charges were delivered in February 2023 and they still looking.

This isn't new. Issue is they won't do anything until the Kawai drama is settled which is TBD.
It is amazing how the whole thing really screws up the league. The Clippers shouldn't have been allowed to make any trades while under investigation if it was going to affect other teams abilities to make deals.

Teams are likely going to have to move on, on some level or another. If Balmer lawyers up and any voiding of the trade takes place, it will probably be this time next year before everything is resolved. Not kidding.

Which wouldn't make any sense. By that logic, Keaton Wagler should then be a Pacer.

Ben Mathur-no serious interest?
To be precise, he said "Dallas has not expressed interest at a serious level". That sounds like team-speak from an LA source for "Dallas has expressed interest but is not offering what we want in a trade".

And when has the new FO shown their cards? The only thing we knew about early was the Sasser move, but that was likely already done by the time the media got wind of it.

Unfortunately, Ricky Rubio's fans were way more into making interesting gifs than Ben Mathurin's fans. I know that disappoints many of our long-standing contributors who are anxiously awaiting my efforts in the near future. Rest assured that I'll do my very best to find a way to be equally annoying about Mathurin as I was about Rubio and PJ Washington. You have my word.
