The question I have, if LeGM is trying to manipulate one last time, and Kyrie is considered a "get", is:

- Would Cleveland try and do a SnT for Kyrie with Harden being the outgoing legal for them?
- Obviously Dallas would have no interest in Harden. What 3rd team would be interested in taking on Harden?
- How much could the Mavs extract by helping two desperate teams?

I think GS feels like they have to do something to help Steph in his last few years. Would Harden and frontcourt help be enough to crack either Yaxel and their 1sts or both?

Cavs get Kyrie (and Lebron)
Warriors get Harden (SnT $39 mil in 1st year) and PJ,  Martin
Mavs get Jimmy Butler, B.Pod, Moody and either 4 unprotected 1sts or 3 1sts and Yaxel

The Mavs will have opportunitically turned two desperate teams who are stuck, into a tier above what they presently are.

GS gets a top 25 player and  a proven 3-D wing. I don't feel like they can simply go into next season as is.
Cleveland gets their version of the Paul George trade, letting Lebron pick his wingman
Dallas would set itself up at the TDL with a massive expiring contract and a war chest to pick and choose the best Robin for Cooper.

Edit: my numbers are off in the fit by adding Martin and Moody, but the general concept stands

That's exactly what I thought too - I went into it thinking it was a win-win, that DLo would fill in admirably for a season and get a better, longer contract from another team based on his play here, and the Mavs would have a stop gap, serviceable point guard while Kyrie rehabbed. Fully expected he would be the no questions asked starting PG while here.

Kind of mind boggling that none of the top 3 PGs from last fall are even with the team anymore. 

I guess you could kinda squint and say that BWill is since his rights have not been renounced, unless I missed a memo.

GS isn't going to mortgage their future for Harden and PJ so it's a moot point imo. They just don't move the needle to trade away all your craft capital. Great trade from the Mavs side. Terrible for GS imo.

Scoot has been talked a lot recently.  I really don't know his game enough to say yes or no.    My quick glance  is he has not shown he is good enough to have the ball as your offensive engine and not good enough shooter off the ball.   Maybe that can change.   

I have no idea of Portland's plans, but they need to do something right?  Scoot is entering his last year of his deal.  I am sure his agency is not happy that there is not a clean role with a lot of minutes.  Sharpe signed his extension and two coaches have sort of lost trust in him.    Jrue is the best of the bunch but has the highest salary and is the oldest.

To take your point one step farther, I think the MOST realistic possibility of Lebron pairing up with Kyrie would be Lebron coming to Dallas.

Likelihood? Quite small.

But I think the other ways to pair them up are even less likely. The Mavs love Kyrie, he's found a home, he doesn't want to go anywhere else, and he's super influential.

I'm, by no means, suggesting that Kyrie should be forced our. If he doesn't want to go anywhere, cool. Happy he's here. But I'm merely piggybacking off the post that suggested that Lebron was conspiring to get Kyrie. 

Plus, other tweets have suggested that Lebron doesn't want to play with Harden, who is just sitting out there.

And there's a vast difference in "mortgaging the future" in a Giannis trade where every pick and swap available goes versus one 1st and one swap. I mean, it's hyperbolic to equate the two positions.

He will continue to be super present for the next decades, no worries. From a brand building and marketing perspective he does everything right with dragging it out and staying in the news. 

I miss Dirk who only did some selected commercial partnerships because wanted maximum focus on basketball and his game.

I never for a second thought they were contenders, but I sure expected more from Russell than what they got. A lot more. Apparently he was so bad they didn't even attempt to get much from him. That was the most puzzling thing about the first month of last season.

So is Fischer reporting both 1) that the Mavs are in play AND 2) that the Clippers are open to a SnT or is he just reporting the second part and the rest stems from that twitter guy I have only heard of a few weeks ago?

For sure, but once you start hearing about potential deals, then the likelihood of them happening tends to lessen.  

And who knows what is going to happen with Leonard punishment-wise.

I dont believe in the player but I wouldn't hate the gamble at a reasonable number.  If we have to pay this dude big money for four years, I am so out.
