By sending Dort to Atlanta, the Thunder opened up more playing time for rising young guards Ajay Mitchell and Cason Wallace, including a starting spot. Wallace, an All-Defensive Team selection, is extension eligible. Comparable guards to Wallace who’ve signed recent contract extensions include Dyson Daniels and Christian Braun, who both signed for $25 million per season, and Jalen Suggs, who signed for $30 million annually. Should Wallace enter restricted free agency next year, he’d be a highly coveted player. Various teams have called the Thunder through Wallace’s tenure to gauge what it would take to pry him from the franchise, as previously mentioned on HoopsHype.

Wallace is in an incredible spot and sort of has OKC in a difficult spot.   Mitchell's contract is awesome and he is really good.   Teams tend to be careful with restricted free agents but Wallace could be entering a perfect storm.   I really think a team may throw a salary at him over 30 million next year.  Can OKC realistically match that?  If they see this coming do they move him for a ton of assets?  Even if you overpay him five or 10 million, he is an excellent role player who also has some untapped offense.

I suppose it only takes one team, but I can't see anyone paying that price for Wallace unless he has a breakout season.  And this comes from someone who likes his game.

I believe you've taken for granted the greatness of Luka. I wish he'd comeback. Him and Flagg would dominate.

No I'm fully aware of how great Luka is. I personally never want to watch that style of basketball again. That's just me. I don't want him back.

1) Luka deferred plenty to Kyrie while he was here, I don't see why we're even questioning if he'd defer to Cooper. 

2) He's played a ball movement style before when he was younger, but why would we not use arguably a top 3 offensive player of all time to the max? Why would we not want him to set up wide open looks for Coop? He rarely makes a poor choice with the ball, and we've seen when he's paired with good players we go to the finals. 

3) the defensive thing as always is over blown. He's not a great defender, he more than makes up for it in every other aspect on the court.

4) the ref barking thing is incredibly annoying but i've given up on Luka making that change. he's a passionate player that takes out his anger on the thing he thinks is causing him to not win. More than often its the refs. But we've seen him bark at players, fans, opposing coaches, opposing teams, and even children. That is who Luka is.

Again, it seems like there is collective amnesia here over just how good Luka Doncic was/is. We would be lucky if he returned.

I didn’t like his style of play more and more despite the team doing well. 

However Masai and any GM would trade anyone on this roster not named Flagg for Luka. That includes Rez.

The question I have, if LeGM is trying to manipulate one last time, and Kyrie is considered a "get", is:

- Would Cleveland try and do a SnT for Kyrie with Harden being the outgoing legal for them?
- Obviously Dallas would have no interest in Harden. What 3rd team would be interested in taking on Harden?
- How much could the Mavs extract by helping two desperate teams?

I think GS feels like they have to do something to help Steph in his last few years. Would Harden and frontcourt help be enough to crack either Yaxel and their 1sts or both?

Cavs get Kyrie (and Lebron)
Warriors get Harden (SnT $39 mil in 1st year) and PJ, Martin
Mavs get Jimmy Butler, B.Pod, Moody and either 4 unprotected 1sts or 3 1sts and Yaxel

The Mavs will have opportunitically turned two desperate teams who are stuck, into a tier above what they presently are.

GS gets a top 25 player and a proven 3-D wing. I don't feel like they can simply go into next season as is.
Cleveland gets their version of the Paul George trade, letting Lebron pick his wingman
Dallas would set itself up at the TDL with a massive expiring contract and a war chest to pick and choose the best Robin for Cooper.

Edit: my numbers are off in the fit by adding Martin and Moody, but the general concept stands

Murphy has a great contract.  So great, that the Pelicans don't need to be in a rush to trade him before his trade value goes down.   I think they move him though.  I would say in the next year.    I think they will have a ton of suitors if he stays healthy.   They will get a haul for him.   Eventually, they will need to wipe things clean, I think.    Players and front office.

That's true, lol. 

I never for a second thought they were contenders, but I sure expected more from Russell than what they got. A lot more. Apparently he was so bad they didn't even attempt to get much from him. That was the most puzzling thing about the first month of last season.

That's exactly what I thought too - I went into it thinking it was a win-win, that DLo would fill in admirably for a season and get a better, longer contract from another team based on his play here, and the Mavs would have a stop gap, serviceable point guard while Kyrie rehabbed. Fully expected he would be the no questions asked starting PG while here.

I think that's what Harrison thought, too. The fact that he and Kidd weren't on the same page about that was one of the first overt signs of what was to come, in hindsight. 

But to RTG's point, it sure is easy for fans to talk themselves into things at this time of year.
