I would also argue that this FO is targeting players with a team oriented mindset (which explains why the majority has been European) and I'm not sure Mathurin fits that bill. I guess we will see.
EDIT: actually the last player I remember looking at that had a good rookie season and then didn't improve much for years after is Kuzma. Not saying they are the same player, but there are some similarities. Offensive scorers who are not great 3 point shooters, don't create much for others and not great defenders. I'm sure Mathurin will turn into something better, but there are hints.
I think this is valid reason to avoid him...if true. I'm just not sure we have enough information to declare he's not team-oriented. But, for clarity, if that ends up bing the case then I'll be out on him. I just have a good feeling about how he'd fit here, idk.
If the Mavs get him and he turns into another Kuzma I'll probably hang myself, so you'll get the last laugh there.

Report on discord that Denver is re-signing Watson. If that’s true, no Mathurin for the Mavs. Just go get Scoot.

It's been needing to be said (this isn't about you):
The various notes we keep seeing that "Schmitz said _________ about player x" are so incredibly meaningless (and misleading). Over the many years on scouting platforms, Schmitz scouted almost every player and probably made comments about almost all of them. He would have focused on selling points for them. The fact he has commented on a player is not saying this was his favorite, or his player, or someone he paid special attention to.
As for Hezonja, he doesn't fit the Mavs roster direction at all. Too old, and certainly NOT one who plays a position of need. And he's very likely looking for a much bigger role than the Mavs would have to offer.

Cannot wait for him to retire.
My only fear is that Lebron is such an attention whore that even in retirement he's going to find a way to anything in the NBA about himself.

The Clippers sign 7' 5" Jamarion Sharp to a two-way.

Nice grab by the Clippers. But they have a giant experiment at center... unless they trade for Gafford.

Jake Fischer: ‘I was told today that Bradley Beal’s decision is not exactly being held up by LeBron, but is being impacted by it. I do think there’s some Miami interest there, and I would not rule out Boston for Beal because of the connection with Jayson Tatum. (…) He could go back to the Clippers. (…) Beal is definitely going to be signed by a team with playoff aspirations, that is my understanding there.’

I can't believe teams are still interested in this guy?

As sources described to the California Post, multiple teams — and players — throughout the league are in a holding pattern until James makes his decision. It’s why James Harden remains an unrestricted free agent after declining his $42.3 million player option with the Cavaliers over three weeks ago with the expectation he’d re-sign with Cleveland on a new deal. It’s why Draymond Green remains an unrestricted free agent after declining his $27.7 million player option with the Warriors, with the expectation he’d re-sign with Golden State on a new deal.

Jake Fischer: I know Lakers fans want to keep drawing the line to a trade with Dallas for either PJ Washington or Daniel Gafford because of their success with Luka Doncic. I really don't have any inclination that the Lakers had trade talks with either of those guys of real consequence this offseason. (…) They still do have interest in Jonathan Kuminga.’

Jake Fischer on Russell Westbrook: ‘I truly have not heard any updates on him since we’ve heard before the opening bell of free agency that the Wizards were interested in him. But also, ever since Washington managed to sneak that Khris Middleton sign-and-trade into a six-team multi-team trade to bring Middleton back to D.C. after that first half of last season, I have been ruling out the Wizards as a Russell Westbrook team. So really, I don’t have a home for him right now, I don't believe Sacramento wants him back, I don’t think he wants to come back there.’

Its such a silly proposition all around.
The Lakers have zero assets remaining. They are totally locked into their roster unless Cam Carr becomes something.

They still don't seem to get the Mavs have a new FO...
The likelihood of doing ANY trade with the Lakers is slim.

I mean they did do two draft day deals with the Lakers. But, I agree. Masai is in no rush to make a deal and will only make a deal that advances his vision. Whether the Lakers want PJ, Gaff, or others is a different question. I just don't see a deal there. Lakers have nothing that interests me. Even future swaps are not interesting.
It seems like the Lakers are looking at value guys now to fill out their roster anyway.

I dont see why this current front office would have an aversion to dealing with the Lakers.

Because they have absolutely nothing of value to offer in trade, unless Luka is on the table….

I don't think I want Luka back. You practically have to empty out the pantry to get him, and then when you get him you struggle to find good pieces to fit with him. And that takes how long?
I've chewed all the flavor out of that gum.
