Dort will be so confused, when they call fouls on him now.

"The Mavericks will use their existing $20.8MM traded player exception to take on Risacher’s $13.8MM contract, tweets Yossi Gozlan of Third Apron. Risacher will be owed $17.4MM in ’27/28 if the Mavs pick up his fourth-year option." Gozlan projects Dallas to be $2.3MM under the luxury tax line after the trade is complete. The team will still have 16 players under standard contract after the move is official, Gozlan adds.

On paper the Mavs and Atlanta won this trade. Although if Risacher becomes a player then Atlanta lost at life, failing to develop a #1 pick.

I really need to figure out How to do this better on my cell phone. The one time I don’t have my iPad with me.

Kind of feels like the cork has been removed from the "clogged up business" bottle, yeah? I wonder if the league has figured out where LeBron is going, even if it hasn't been announced to us yet.

I think Nembhard can take pride in the fact that he was traded for a #1 draft pick.
I liked him when could shoot 3s, but there wasn't enough player left when he couldn't. He would have lost most of the minutes he had last year, so I hope Atlanta uses him. I think he was well-liked in the lockeroom.

I see that it's said the Mavs supposedly used the AD TPE for Risacher. However, I thought that the Mavs:
- were able to acquire Sasser in the giant aggregate trade which left the Bi-annual free - the Mavs then used the Bi to sign Biber - This leaves the MLE to trade for Risacher - Thus, the TPE is unused Yes, I know the Mavs became hard capped at the 1st Apron because of the big trade and, thus, can't use the full $20 mil TPE, as things stand, but if there are trades to come, I just like having things slot with the best number fit. And I've been mulling the Warriors trade that has been discussed. Though I disagree with those who think Butler would be a bad player to put around Cooper. I think Butler and Cooper are the same players who would rather die than lose. I would love him to set the tone in practices like he did in Minnesota. It was KAT who was the bad influence. Perhaps GS wouldn't want to give up Yaxel at first in a Gafford/PJ/Klay for Butler trade. But I would be okay with adding Max for Yax. The Mavs, after the season, would potentially have an obscene amount of cap space with Butler's and Kyrie's deals, among others, coming off the books.

I'll drive Christie to the airport to make this happen. I didn't watch a ton of summer league but Yax put in the best performance I saw. And speaking of GSW, I'd be interested in stealing Cryer from them.

Last TDL Atlanta didn't want to put Risacher on the table for AD. Five months later they are dumping him for one 2nd, a replacement level player and cap relief. Yeah I know they got Dort but this is the angle from our POV.
I'm not even high on Risacher but this is good value for us, it's a nice roll the dice type of move. I love our offseason so far. It's so good to finally have a competent FO. Also this is another move that nobody saw coming. No reporter has a clue about the Mavs and I love it.

I think what this move tells is not that ATL felt Risacher was untouchable in a potential AD trade, but rather that they looked at the cold, hard reality of being put in the position of either having to give AD an insane extension or worse - deny him one, and smartly shrank from that risk. This is why the Mavs did the right thing by cutting their losses and moving on from that mess at the deadline.

Since we know there has to be at least one more move, if only to get to 15 man roster and since I don't believe they are done making moves, here is my last of players that well and then some that may be moved.
Klay is gone and most likely to be the one that gets them to 15 man roster. I do wonder if they can get Klay to take say half of his 12.6 million dollar contract, since I am sure he can see he doesn't fit here and it would allow him to pick who he signs with, plus it isn't like he is hurting for money. Martin is the other player that needs to go, but with his player option they are going to have too add him as part of a trade with someone like PJW, Max for Gaff, but if not he is the 14th man and seldom even dressing this year. Naji, who I hate to see go because of his effort and being the the muscle at times on the team and scoring in the lane but with his contract and his play I think may be worth more in a trade. PJW, his salary is the most obvious reason he may be moved and the fact they have so many players in his size range and might be able to help clear either Klay's or Martin's salary. Max, who most have listed as the starting 2 but his handles aren't good at all and seems limited to being a catch and shoot 3 player, though pretty good defender but not real good. Gafford may be the one most seem to talk about, but at least to start the year he is the only center who has any real time in the lane, with Lively expected to even be a full go for sometime. I can see him going in a trade now for another center or to move Martin or Klay, but don't expect it to happen till near the trade deadline. I think this could be a very interesting season coming up for the Mavs, I sure won't miss the pound the ball for 20 seconds before even starting to run a play and seeing what happens when you don't just have 2 players go to their corner and aren't allowed to move.

This summer has made something very clear to me: we've gotten used to players getting extensions and then demanding trades a year or two later, but the new MO around the league seems to be trading extension-eligible players BEFORE you give them the deal.

Why has nobody posted this?
Irving Risacher Flagg Washington Johnson Jr I think that is pretty clearly the starting five IF they move on from Gafford. Risacher needed a change of scenery but he can play. Not a superstar type of player but somebody who has the upside of a very good two way wing player who can floor it, shoot, pass a bit and does not need the ball a ton to give you 15+ ppg on a nightly basis. Think of Otto Porter Jr who was a very good wing for a while before all the injuries or Chandler Parsons. That’s his upside Imo and a really good player to have. Or Mikal Bridges. Even if he does suck we did not give up a ton and he will come off the payroll the second Luka signs his new contract here.

All indications are that they really like Christie, and I think the goal is to add shooting, not decrease it. Also, I don't personally think Rishacher is a 2. I suppose you can do a "one guard, everyone else 6'-9" thing at times, sure. But, in the eventuality that Risacher becomes a 30 minutes per type of guy here, should that happen, I feel like he's a small forward, basically. Still, early days to argue over this stuff. |
