Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
(07-19-2026, 09:25 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: I just don’t think getting the pick is realistic.  The reason you want Barrett is he’s the best player in the deal.  He’s on an expiring contract, so it isn’t some albatross.  I just don’t see how we justify getting the best player and a pick.  I like the Gafford plus Martin idea, but I think we are the one adding pick equity to that deal (plus it leaves Toronto a little thin at SG)
I agree. They aren't including a pick. I would do the trade without the pick. I think Barrett is a quality player though overpaid.

Wasn't it reported that Toronto didn't want to include Barrett in the Leonard trade?  I doubt we have a package they like.

The Mavs clearly want Moussa Cisse around, which isn’t a coincidence.

As we’ve been reporting on @ClutchPoints through the weeks, Dallas has been looking to move Daniel Gafford for value this offseason.

Based on talk in Vegas this past week, it’s likely he’ll be moved.

Its not a news flash that the Mavs would trade Gaff if they got the value on return they are looking for.

As far as the likelihood of that happening, I have learned not to trust a word that Siegel says. He's just guessing, same as what we do. He has no actual solid info.

All the "aggregate" accounts are saying the Mavs are actively shopping Gafford like that hasn't been happening all summer. Social media grifting needs to come to a halt.

I think the smartest plan value wise is starting the first couple of months with Gafford on the roster anyways, for three main reasons:

Morez can get acclimated, Lively can get healthy, Cisse can develop.

Gafford can improve his value by being healthy and performing in Dusty’s system.

And teams that want to compete can find out that their rim protection and center position sucks.

I think the Mavs best case is that LeBron joins the Warriors and they trade Washington + DJJ + Thompson for Butler + Lendeborg with Gafford re-routed to LA.

Mavs trade!

BREAKING: The Oklahoma City Thunder trading All-Defensive wing Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team deal that sends three second-round picks to OKC, former No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher to the Dallas Mavericks and Ryan Nembhard to Atlanta, sources tell ESPN.

Incoming hate for this, but I'm INTO IT!!!

Didn't even have to give anything up and get an interesting player (albeit an expensive one, considering we're talking about a rookie deal still).

What does this do to the tax line? I imagine there's still something that needs to be outgoing in another deal for financial purposes...right?

Let’s keeping stocking up on bigs!!! YESSSS!! Dallas must have liked what they saw in Larry and Ish (assuming they’re not going to trade for another guard which is probably very likely)

I knew you would be happy and I agree. Why not take a cheap flyer on an athletic former #1 overall pick. Nothing to hate about this deal.

We traded for Risacher?

Risacher is all 3, imho. This is one front court addition that makes things less ambiguous, not more. At least the way I see things.

He's a different version of Ament, basically. I think he's not quite as long, but basically, same unusual on ball skill and shooting ability for his size. I think he has some nice potential as a defender, too.

The Mavs are all in on two things: 1) UNDER 25 and 2) SHOOTING

That’s another Presti masterclass by the way:

„Rather than simply declining Dort's $17.7 million team option to save the money, the Thunder picked it up, acquired three future assets, created a $17M trade exception and place their 2025 championship stalwart in position for a new long-term deal in Atlanta which was not viable in OKC.“

Love the move. I think Risacher starts at the 3 and PJ gets pushed to the bench (or another team).

I don't think any of the veterans other than Kyrie will be here at the start of the season. I think we're seeing a youth movement and they'll let them grow together.
