MAVS NEWS:

This is a microcosm of everything that's wrong with Cuban, imo.

I appreciate everything he did for this franchise (none of us would be here without him, if we're being honest), but he was either too distracted, too oblivious or too misinformed to execute the sale of his team correctly, even. He was completely in the driver's seat with all the control and somehow couldn't get the outcome he wanted. Since then he has doubled and tripled down on the idea that the NBA somehow didn't allow him to structure the contract in a way that reflected his agreement with the Adelsons, when less than a year later the Lakers changed hands under the EXACT circumstances Cuban was attempting to create.

Why on Earth would we want someone like this running the team? If he can't get a multi-billion dollar deal right, how did we ever expect him to squeeze an extra 2nd round pick out of a trade deadline deal with the Charlotte Hornets??!

And on top of everything else...he should probably just fill his time with his drug company or counting his money, but he just...won't...go...away.

The called Aldama a forward (4), same as Tarik (3). That's where I'll keep them on the depth chart. Smile

Maybe some embellishment on the heights? Aldama 7'1. Tarik 6'7. Sasser 6'2... All an inch taller than their listed height elsewhere. Smile

Anyway, I think all 3 will get plenty of playing time this season. The opportunity will be there. I hope all of them take advantage of it and help the Mavs win games!

I'm starting to think Sasser would be good enough in the rotation that another PG won't be necessary. It may depend on how much creation is distributed across the roster.

I think they were never going to fix every hole on the roster with one transaction cycle. Given what they had to work with, I think they've executed what they planned to do. Starting with drafting a dawg at 9 and trading up for a player they believe in. The three they traded for all fill a major need. Shooting.

To your point on Sasser. I don't know that he will be any more than he's been to this point, a 3rd PG type, limited minutes guy, that can knock down a 3. In my ~20 minutes of watching/reading about him today - I like the swing on his potential fit here and think a change of scenery could be exactly what he needed.

I think if he can invest some time in being a lob threat, he'll have a lot of fans on this roster.

The timing of this is certainly odd. If Cuban did this immediately after the Luka trade, I think the entire city of Dallas would have backed him.

But he waited nearly 18 months to file this and only after Dumont seemed to have hired several competent (and famous) guys to lead the helm. Does this mean Cuban wants a piece of the newly baking pie or is he trying to regain control after sailing through arguably the darkest period in franchise history?

I'm not too sure about that. I think we're going to be calling for some sort of true guard by December. But it's okay because right now there really isn't any available.

The only guy I'm curious about is Westbrook. Do the Kings want him back? Does Westbrook have another year in him? Does he want to ring chase?

He could be had for the vet min pretty easily. He's a bigger guard as well, and would have a clear defined role here.

I feel like his role would be progress stopper.  I would rather see the kids develop and assess from there.

To all of you that hate Nico, please acknowledge Cuban facilitated it all. Without Mark, Nico does t exist and have free reign.

Agreed. If the Mavericks were THAT focused on PG play, the two swings worth considering this summer were probably LaMello Ball and Morant. Since I didn't really like either idea, especially given the trade cost of Ball, I was fine with them not pursuing either.

Once you exhaust that level of swing, guys like Westbrook and even Sexton just don't hold a lot of interest for me. I'd much rather see De Larrea, Nembhard and Sasser get chances to play, even if they fail a lot in the short term.

I'd rather have Derozan than Westbrook, but probably neither.

Lamelo Ball is going to get at least one MVP vote.

Is there somewhere I can wager on that?

I am no lawyer but it appears the old rehash of the handshake deal is not the big thing.  It might be the new stadium.   Seems like Cuban was either out of the conversations and/or made a bad bet on one of the other locations.     Seems like all the drama Cuban has caused made Dumont say "F you" then.   Or maybe I am off.

You're probably right. That's a good call.

If you look at the roster like this, does it make more sense?

Kyrie | Sasser | Sergio | Nemby
Christie | Klay | (Poulakidas)
Flagg | Naji | Tarik | Martin
PJW | Aldama | (Lawal)
Gafford | Morez | Lively | (Cisse)

I know the big pushback is Lively 3rd on the depth chart, but the sooner everyone gets on board with my thinking, the better. He will be at best a 50 game player at ~16 mpg. Hence the need for Cisse on a two-way, because Gafford isn’t playing 82 either.

Sasser, Sergio, Nemby can fight all season for playing time - put them in whatever order you’d like. PJ and Aldama cover the 4 minutes. If either are out, then Flagg slides down or Morez up, and Tarik gets more run.

He would add some "mugness" to the team.
