Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
(07-07-2026, 04:51 PM)RoyTarpleysGhost Wrote: That's a tempting trade.  I would probably do it.  Cam Johnson only has 1yr left on his deal and is a lights out shooter.  Better fit on this roster next to Flagg.  The PJ and Gafford contracts looked fine when they were signed but with how teams are operating under this CBA, they look like negative value contracts.  Both have 3 years remaining.  You'd get out of two big financial commitments.

I agree but would be good with keeping Gaff. PJ definitely needs to be moved to save money. I know they may not be able to match salaries without both, so that’s okay by me as well.

Rez picked him up full court as he exited the plane and he still hasn't managed to make it to the baggage carousel.

Not gonna lie, my certainty on the Mavs' Sasser acquisition is actually waning a bit. Reason being, the original rationale behind the trade was to save Detroit money for flexibility purposes (Dallas sends nothing, just takes him off their hands), but since then I've had an impression that Detroit managed to resolve their money crunch in other ways and doesn't need to get rid of Sasser. It might have changed into a circumstance in which the Mavs would have to send something of value to obtain Sasser, and may therefore believe they can't deal for him under those circumstances. 100% personal speculation. We'll see.

Detroit made a trade. Not the one Stein says is coming. Detroit needs to be working on something. They have not done enough this summer (still early) and feels a little stuck at the moment

The Pistons are freeing up roughly $7M in extra funds needed to complete their recent transactions and then sign RFA Jalen Duren by trading Caris LeVert to the Bucks for Taurean Prince and Gary Harris.

Simple cost-cutting maneuver by the Pistons.

Not just that, but also gets some needed shooting and an extra wing.

LeVert is a better player than both, but in the aggregate Harris+Prince makes sense for DET. The 2 2nds is surprising.

Only thing worse than another LeDecision is that he now has to film it all for the documentary nobody asked for. He´s probably sitting in his house in Cleveland crying about this was always home and then he´ll film a sequence with Bronny and how awesome it would be to play with his dad at home in Cleveland, where it all started. And judging by his Space Jam II acting ability it will probably take a month to film all this crap, till we final get the official announcement.

Lol I'm there with ya after the Deandre Jordan big summer blowout.

But truthfully it was an out-of-nowhere rumor to BEGIN free agency, which tells me whatever the Mavs are planning regarding Sasser, it's probably a finishing type of move. Which makes sense given thus far they've been filling the edges with wings and shooting.

The Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and 76ers appear to be the top 3 teams in the LeBron sweepstakes, per

“When the Sixers got Jaylen Brown I did some research and he (LeBron) is taking their pitch very seriously. When I talk to teams now I have a hierarchy of Cleveland, Miami, Philadelphia, and then some teams on the peripheral”

The Lakers are reportedly willing to offer Jonathan Kuminga a two-year, $20 million contract, per
@latimes

“Jonathan Kuminga is a player the Lakers are after, according to people with knowledge of the situation who said L.A. is looking at a two-year, $20-million deal for Kuminga, the sort of athletic wing player the Lakers need to start at small forward.”

Does a 2yr/30mil deal make sense for Kuminga? I know we don't need yet another forward. But taking one off the market also makes the forwards we do have that much more valuable.

I'm sure the Lakers would be interested in Caleb Martin for 2 2nds.

After the whole Jalen Brunson disaster, all we need now is Luka and Kyrie Reaves, Grimes, PJ Kuminga, Walker Lively win a championship in LA. If Cuban was a good owner the Mavs probably have three rings, if he was great it´s probably 6-7. Dude fell a** backwards into Dirk, Nash, Luka and Brunson and got one title out of it. Cry

Nothing new. The NBA has always embellished some players height.

I don't have the foggiest idea what my hometown team is doing?  This latest move seems underwhelming to me, Prince, and Harris?  But I guess I need to pack some patience and hold out for something else.

See what I meant about Detroit not having a crunch anymore? I hate to catastrophize over Marcus freaking Sasser, but he would have been a nice pickup.

Just in: Free agent Khris Middleton has agreed on a three-year, $17.6 million deal with the Washington Wizards via sign-and-trade, agent Mike Lindeman of Excel Sports Management tells ESPN. The 14-year veteran returns to D.C. where he spent parts of last two seasons as a leader with championship presence.

Hmmm… wonder what the return was for Middleton.

The Mavericks will create a $5.6 million trade exception by sign and trading Khris Middleton to these terms.

The Wizards can absorb him into their $13.4 million trade exception which expires tomorrow.
