Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
(07-06-2026, 08:10 PM)F Gump Wrote: It has not been announced by Mavs or NBA, because it's almost certainly just an agreed-to thing. As you note, until there is a trade of his rights to DAL, the Mavs can't actually sign him.

Ever since the VAJ debacle, when people say "handshake deal," I spell it "hands shake."

Really, how many teams do that - force their way into an already-agreed-upon situation? That should have doomed the Clippers, and the only ones it doomed were the Mavs.

Not impressed says Gump. Needs to be all full court threes.

Given the approach appears to be to add shooting from any and all positions, waiving arguably our best shooter makes little sense.

Klay brings a sense of validity to this team given his past championship experience.

I get the want to move on from him, but I for one value his shooting too much to just ship him off as a salary dump.

LOL Exactly! In fact, he needs to live up to the NBA standard for shooting greatness - "off the expressway, over the river, off the billboard, through the window, off the wall, nothing but net"!

Most of my foreign european friends (Balkan states, Greece, ...) watch the Euroleague regularly and they all said dude is a total sniper. Not sure how much else he can do in the NBA, but at least his size is good and the shooting should be for real. Younger version for the Klay-role on our team, I assume. I expect him to be gone for sure. Hope he can chase a ring somewhere.

Joe Vardon: Count the Cavs in that group. Cleveland has one or two roster moves to make to be able to pay LeBron James $15 million next season instead — unloading Strus and Schröder — but hasn’t done either yet. I am told they, like other teams pursuing James, are in a holding pattern. The Cavs might make those moves even if James doesn’t pick them. They also might not make those moves if he picks them. Ostensibly, trading Strus for nothing (to increase James’ salary) makes them worse after the departure of Wade. So, if James doesn’t care about the dollars, maybe they hold onto Strus, and possibly even Schröder. That said, removing either one of them without taking anything back gets Cleveland under next season’s first apron, giving the Cavs much more flexibility to upgrade the roster at the trade deadline.

The expectation around the Nuggets is that they will waive Jonas Valanciunas, saving the $8 million and allowing him to hit free agency. The Nuggets are in a cap crunch this summer, and despite recent reports suggesting the front office is not as worried about it as many seemed to initially believe, they have no reason to keep Valanciunas heading into next season.

“We wanted to stay good,” Stevens said. “And we wanted to add more optionality.” Ironically, that formula involved acquiring George, whose contract is similar to Brown’s but has one fewer year. Stevens said the first-round picks in the deal, including a 2028 pick with several complicated stipulations, were “potential premium assets.” “I think the biggest thing is, it’s (George), plus the picks, plus the optionality moving forward,” Stevens said. “Paul’s contract is shorter.”

Rod Boone: Dorian Finney-Smith trade is official. #Hornets sent cash considerations to Houston. Unlikely he'll suit up for the #Hornets, per league sources.

Pat Riley: “Hardaway is obviously a great name around here. Tim Jr. is one of the most explosive shooters in the league and a player we have long coveted. We are thrilled to finally be able to bring him home.”

Yet as league sources close to Jokić explained, he wants to wait on his next contract to add another year of max money (approximately $80 million) to his deal. He has one guaranteed season left on his contract, with a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season. A five-year deal with the Nuggets signed a year from now would run through the 2031-32 campaign, with Jokić turning 37 years old midway through the final season. Per sources, the chance to get that sort of payday in his late 30s is a significant factor in this decision.

Yossi Gozlan: The Pistons have acquired Isaiah Joe as a standalone deal, meaning they’re absorbing him with their mid-level exception. They could renounce cap holds to absorb him with cap space, but that seems unlikely. They have $3.7 million remaining of their MLE.

Tim Reynolds: It indeed appears Giannis will wear 7 in Miami. I wonder if the Heat should just keep selling 34 with a “+” in the middle.

All the shooters they’ve brought and Klay are guys who need to be set up for threes not creating their own. They must have a lot of faith in Sasser or maybe high expectations for Sergio his rookie year, cuz they just don’t have enough creators. And I don’t really want to see a ton of point Flagg.

Man, I did not know PJ's last year of his contact is close to 25 million.   Straight 4 year deal with no outs.    Looks like a Nico special.  Especially with the deals we are seeing this summer.

Pretty standard deal for a player of his caliber at the time it was signed.  I despise Nico, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the PJ contract.

One of the things where I don't know what you do.   Mitchell is a very good player, but man this contract seems like danger territory where you try but can't move in a few years.

BREAKING: Cleveland Cavaliers All-NBA star Donovan Mitchell has agreed on a four-year, $273 million maximum contract extension that includes a player option for the 2030-31 season and a full trade kicker, CAA's Co-Head of Basketball, Austin Brown, tells ESPN.

Also smallish guard where the extension doesn't kick in until he is 31.

Report: Tarik Biberović has signed a two-year, $14 million deal. The second year is a team option.
