Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027

I love Cisse, but I think he's the kind of guy that you'd love to have on your team at the end of the bench but shouldn't fret if he's not with your squad.

See, to me (I'll try to use Smitty's terminology), Aldama is a "big" who CAN play some "wing" in bigger lineups. When he plays "big," he'll do so in a slightly "wing-like" way, but that's THE WHOLE POINT.

Me, too.

I loathed the argument last summer that Kai Jones was somehow this precious gem that needed to be prioritized, but I find myself feeling that way about Cisse this year. I think he gives you about 80% of what Gafford does (in areas of Gafford strength - maybe MORE than Gafford does in some other areas, even) at a fraction of the cost, and without expectations for role and playing time.

I'm all about it.

I could see them prioritizing him as PG over Sasser and Nembhard.  It is tougher to see them prioritize him at SG with Klay still here. Like you say, Naji might be the main creator for the bench unit which would allow Larry a greater opportunity to be a secondary creator and spacer for that unit.  Naji should look very different driving to the basket with all of the spacing that now seems to be available to the team.

I have my own doubts on Sergio being a good enough creator at the NBA level out of the gate. I think he will eventually get there. I think that's why I've viewed him more in my mind as an off-ball, secondary ball-handler guy in year 1. I have gone back and forth with the same thought you've had though. There's no telling what they think of Sasser either. We don't even know if it was a salary dump, where the Mavs just wanted the pick(s).. or if they paid 'something' to land him. Heck, I don't even know what I think of him to be honest.

Just speculation on my part.

But, to your point, he has a 4-year deal, so there's no doubt in my mind they have at least a tentative idea of a long term role for him, and it probably does involve playing on-ball. I think he's going to get opportunities for minutes right away, somehow.

I promise I was typing as you were, I'm just slow. I could have just copy/pasted this to save time. Smile

Heat Central: BREAKING: Giannis Antetokounmpo announces he doesn’t think he will keep number 34 this year with the Heat. He likes the number 7. Bobby Portis Jr. ( @BPortistime ) will wear No. 95 for the #Heat. Number never worn in franchise history. #NBA

We still haven't heard a peep about Middleton, despite vague ideas that he could end up in Miami.

I don't believe he wants to play for the minimum. I just don't.

It still feels like there's a lot of meat on the bone for the Mavs this summer. Maybe I'm just setting myself up for disappointment, but...I really think there are some more bombs in the air that will land somewhere soon.

Because I view this part:

Christie | Klay | Sergio
Flagg | Naji | Tarik
PJW | Aldama | Martin

....As pick any combination of 3 you want to and it can fit. Some better than others of course but pick the worst 3 you can think of and add Kyrie+Lively.

The worst version for me is probably Kyrie - Martin - PJW - Aldama - Lively? It's still a functioning lineup based on each players skillset and size, right? Obviously, Martin would need to shoot like he did at the end of the year and PJ like he did in '24-'25 for it to even work, but that's not really my overall point. That's the worst combination I can think of...

Bobby Marks: Now that the Giannis trade has become official, below are the extension options: As of 10/1, if the 27-28 option is declined: 3 years/$193M. If the 27-28 option is exercised: 2 years/$135M. As of 1/6, if the 27-28 option is declined: 4 years at $275M. If the ' 27- '28 option is exercised: 3 years/$214M. The difference in years and salary is a result of the six-month extension restriction for players traded. The opt-in scenario (last one) maximizes the most earning power (an extra $1M).

I can see a lot, but the more I see, the more it makes sense to let the roster play out completely in the next week or so. Thin the heard.

Marc Stein: The Mavericks, who still possess the full $15 million midlevel, emerged as a suitor for Rui Hachimura along with the Clippers on top of Brooklyn's long-held interest ... but Hachimura had a clear intention to stay in LA after 3 1/2 seasons as a Laker.

Let's say it is Cleveland, just as a hypothetical...does that mean anyone from there might be available?

I'm struggling to see enough usage to go around for Harden, LeBron AND Mitchell, even short term.
