Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
Re: Cisse - I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a pretty heated ongoing discussion with Cisse’s camp about two-way vs. full, length of contract, size of contract, TOs, POs, etc., plus trying to avoid any other team prying him away. I like his fit a good deal more than Gafford’s. And that’s the rub. If they trade away Gafford, they really need him. If they plan to keep Gafford, they may not want to get in a bidding war with other teams.

You view Mathurin more as a Guard than Wing? Do you think the Clippers send back SRPs to the Mavs? Or do you think it's an even SnT deal? What would the salary look like for Mathurin?

Absolutely agree that Cisse's future role here is 100% tied into what happens next with Gafford.

???Fenerbahçe's Tarık Biberovic has established himself as one of the best players in Europe and is now drawing serious interest from the NBA.

The Dallas Mavericks, who acquired Biberovic's NBA rights in last night's trade, are expected to present the standout forward with a significant contract offer in the coming days.

Forward is a little misleading in this case, I think. He probably plays more 3 than 2, but he's not going to add to the PF/C logjam in any way. This is a size and type they need...kind of Caleb Martin/Klay Thompson competition, and honestly Thompson probably belongs more in that "up a position" logjam, given how slow he is now. You could argue there's some overlap with Marshall with this guy, too.

Dumont is spending a lot of money on buyouts... respect. I guess it doesn't hurt that the AD trade saved him $100m+ in repeater taxes and salary...

For those complaining about all of the draft capital (basically 3 second rounders) that went out in the Aldama deal, was any of that capital allocated to this guy?  Was he worth one of the seconds?  More?

Assuming Tarik comes over, three 2nds for two solid, young, sharpshooting rotation players is a fantastic deal for Dallas.

I think you let him cook off the bench as the scoring sixth man.  I view him as a 2/3 w/creation ability.

I have no idea how to value how many second round picks to put in something like this...if any.  Are you suggesting Gafford is X seconds more valuable than Mathurin?  Or, is it the fact he's a FA?  LAC will just match, so there is value in making it a S&T as they (and the player) have to agree or there is no way to acquire him.

I would have said salary at something above the MLE so that you are paying something other teams can't pay.  But the salaries given to Sexton and Simons have frankly been kind of shocking.  So, I really don't know what to think guys like this are going for now.

Expanding on a subject we covered earlier today on
@DLLS_Mavs
:

The Mavericks will next week officially acquire the draft rights to Tarik Biberović and have opened discussions with his representatives about potentially bringing the sharpshooter to Dallas as early as next season, league sources tell
@TheSteinLine

Biberović stars for Turkish power Fenerbahçe and sources say his contract includes a $2 million buyout. The most that the Mavericks can contribute to a buyout is $900,000, so any eventual contract factors into the player's ability to cover the rest.

Wow! I didn't know about this. Very interesting.

Slightly longer article on it but not really anything juicier than what's already been posted from the tweet about it.

I'm pretty excited about this one because of how much shooting there is in his highlights like KL pointed out.  Anyone have any clue what his defense is like?  I'm just going to assume prime Scottie Pippen until proven otherwise.

I'm going to assume Pottie Scippen on the defensive end.

Here is one reference point. Typical analytics caveats apply, but looks good to me: https://3stepsbasket.com/player/tarik-biberovic

While we're at it, here's the same breakdown for Sergio: https://3stepsbasket.com/player/sergio-de-larrea

A much bigger article on the guy....

Mavs To Make ‘Significant Offer’ To Tarik Biberovic?

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2026/07/mavs...rovic.html

The important part....

"It’s unclear what a “significant” offer would entail. The Mavericks could try to sign Biberovic using the second-round exception, which would give him guaranteed money, or they could dip into their mid-level exception or bi-annual exception to present a more lucrative offer.

According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line (Twitter link), the Mavs have begun talking to Biberovic’s agents about the possibility of the 25-year-old coming stateside next season. Sources tell Stein that Biberovic’s contract with Fenerbahce features a $2MM buyout — Dallas can only cover $900K of that total, Stein notes, and Biberovic would be responsible for the rest."

I’m getting Gal Mekel flashback PTSD from all talk of filling the Mavs guards needs with euros.

I hope it works out better now then it did then.

I know Donnie made European scouting trendy with the Dirk pick and was more active overseas than many other GMs, but frankly I trust our current Masai/Schmitz braintrust way more overall. They live and breathe overseas scouting. It won't always hit, but there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the guys they have targeted.

Agreed.

And, it's a different time. The game has become much more normalized across the globe since then, through both the foreign programs improving and the NBA rules changing to make the American game more like the international game. There has also been a lot of "proof of concept" with European players since back then. There are now many more blueprints to follow for both players and teams.

Boring!   Being on three teams in one year makes it tough to get into a groove, so I give him some leeway.   But he has been pretty bad for two years.  He once was a very good backup point guard.  Denver need juice imo.  I would have preferred giving Brandon Williams a chance over Jones.

***********

Free agent guard Tyus Jones has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Denver Nuggets, sources tell ESPN. Jones played a reserve role after joining Denver on the buyout market last season, and enters his 12th NBA season as his agent Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Sports Management completes an agreement with Nuggets officials.

Cason Wallace news hasn't updated and he’s yet to sign his extension with OKC. He wants a big payday and a bigger role and their moves haven’t fixed that issue.

I wonder if the Mavs are still in on sending PJ for Cason….
