Trade & Free Agency 2026/2027
(07-01-2026, 03:05 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I'm going to predict that Thompson gets moved, no matter what. Due to the payroll-conscious thinking you correctly point to above, his expiring deal is pretty alluring for teams, and Dallas is currently situated nicely, in both financial flexibility and lack of on court expectations, to eat a little bit of salary some team wants rid of. It might be for a young player with no current path to realizing their potential, or it might be for a vet with a bad contract they agree to eat in exchange for draft capital, but I'd be pretty surprised if they don't do something with Thompson's expiring contract. They're significantly under the tax, so now's the time to think that way.

With Marshall, I think it's about whether or not the new front office thinks he fits here, and we just don't know. If they do, they'd better be pretty sure, because they're going to need to extend him soon. If the goal is to keep him I wouldn't be comfortable with the situation dragging out past the trade deadline, or they'll wind up significantly overpaying next summer. If they don't see him in their longterm plans, they probably should move him either now or at the deadline and let the next team negotiate his extension. That seems to be the safer move these days - the "just get him on a good deal - we can always move him later" strategy might be harder to execute right now than in the past. Maybe the new Mavs front office doesn't know yet whether they want him? It's harder to predict whether he'll be here, imo.

You complain about Mavs 3 point shooting and then talk about wanting one of the top 10 shooters of all time to leave. No comprende.

PandaHank just dropped a Marcus Sasser highlight video in expectation of him being a Mav.

Great defender. Lethal shooter. MUCH more pick and roll skill than I expected.

He is small.

He makes sense. We have absolutely nobody that qualifies as a defensive guard. He seems like a little bulldog. Playing at home he´ll probably bring it every night. He should look to Darrell Armstrong for the player he wants to become.

Agreed. If he plays that hard consistently, which is tough to tell from highlights, I’d say he could be their best POA defender since…idk, young Devon Harris?

Really quick hands. And maybe explosive enough to make his height a non-factor.

Yeah, maybe. The problem with defenders is always whether or not they have enough utility on offense to be playable, and this guy‘s shooting seems to check that box. I have to say I like this experiment.

For two hours, they dined and talked in a South Carolina steakhouse, and what Portland Trail Blazers coach Micah Nori noticed most about his lunch partner was the sincerity of his words, the seriousness of his facial expressions, and the excitement that was unable to be contained. Ja Morant told his new coach that he couldn’t wait to play for the Blazers. “I think we are going to get the best version of Ja,” Nori said. “I think we are going to get a motivated Ja.” When Nori settled into the steakhouse booth on Tuesday, he saw none of the petulance, none of the defiance, none of the attitude that has colored Morant’s image. Nori said he couldn’t help but notice the way Morant talked, and the way he carried himself. There was a seriousness, an enthusiasm, a focus. “The way he was talking, the way he looked … the intent he had, you could just tell in his face that he missed basketball,” Nori said. “And he assured that we were going to get the best Ja and that he was going to do all the right things.” “He’s excited to be on a team with vets like Dame and Jrue, and he loves the young talent of Deni (Avdija), Scoot, (Donovan) Clingan, (Toumani) Camara … I mean, he mentioned them all by name,” Nori said. As they left the restaurant, Nori asked Morant what he needed from him. How could he help? “He just said, ‘Make sure I get some Trail Blazers gear as soon as possible so I can start wearing it,’” Nori said.

We'll see if he can bounce back. However, Ja and Dame are a very small backcourt.

This is like that summer of free agency when Donnie and Cubes tried to hype up Delon Wright. I refuse to watch Marcus Sasser hype videos.

are Masai and Scmidt awake?

DJJ was just here not too long ago lest we forget.  But ya, this team never seems to address that need so hopefully Sasser is a good one.
