I don't think Sasser is a point. He is one of those tough Houston players who can score. Probably nothing more than an 8-9 man. Quick and probably best playing as your 2nd or 3rd creator. Think of a Miles McBride type.

If absorbing Sasser helps keeping Duren away from the Lakers then I am all for it! #2028

I like the Sasser news.
1) he’s a playable body at a guard position.
2) SHOOTING! (Duh)
3) good, up and coming POA defender - another dire need here. Sure, his size probably means he’s not a solution for guys like Cade Cunningham, but in case it has slipped everyone’s attention, about seven more traditionally sized point guards just entered the league via the first round.
4) don’t want to jinx it, but I can’t imagine this will cost draft capital, which the Mavericks have no business sending out right now. Instead, I buy the idea that it might net a small piece of draft capital.
5) YOUNG!!!! (Thank you)

There has been a lot of smoke with Lebron to GS. He probably ends up there. It may be the funniest place for him to play at. That means something. I don't think they are a contender though.
Cavs, Spurs and possibly Heat could be. Although those wouldn't be as fun.
I think if GS could get AD that could get interesting. It is such a turnoff that AD is looking for a big extension. I get it. Try to get money when you can, but you would think he would read the room and try to show himself on the court first.

So many IFs with the potential GS team, but man it would be hard not to cheer for a bunch of old guys if they get to the playoffs healthy for one last ride so to speak.

LeBron should go to the Spurs if he decides to spurn his good buddy, Kyrie.

Stein is saying that 5.6 exception is smaller because AJ Johnson went into that.

Can use the BAE, part of the AD TPE, or part of the MLE. Not an issue.

Oh, I’d say it’s quite an issue if the AD TPE or the MLE were involved. Might be needed for our other targets. If the BAE is big enough, then they’re fine.

I see that Sasser has a team option. Did they already exercise it? I guess I'm wondering why they'd need to send him into one of the Mavs' exceptions if they can/could've just simply let hm go...
...this assumes that DET's motivations are financial, I guess. Is it possible that's a poor assumption?

Yossi Gozlan: The Hawks will use nearly their entire $15 million mid-level exception to sign Jock Landale to this contract. His Non Bird rights are too low for him to receive this without the MLE. Going rate for premium reserve big men is $14 million annually between him and Robert Williams.

Sadly, Gafford makes more than that.

Feeling better about Gafford's deal now.

...about $4 million lower than Gafford's annual salary now that his extension kicks in.
Not ideal.

According to BR, DET exercised Sasser's TO last October.

2026-27: Club Option (deadline 10/31/25, exercised 10/21/25).
His $5,198,983 is fully guaranteed this upcoming season. Will be a RFA next summer.

Dallas may be stuck with Gafford. Haven't heard anything circulating involving him, but it's early.

Ok, so it's probably a financially motivated deal, as assumed. That would explain the Duncan Robinson news, too.
I'd consider taking HIM (Robinson) off their hands with the bigger trade exception, tbh.
