To add on here, I’m told that Jalen Duren very much wants to play in Sacramento and Kings big man Domantas Sabonis is likewise interested in the prospect of landing with the Pistons.

Cason Wallace is reportedly open to leaving the Thunder, per @NYPost_Lewis
“There is a belief around the league that Wallace is open to leaving OKC, and he’s up for a big extension the Thunder might be loath to pay. The young guard would cost multiple first-round picks but be the point-of-attack defender the Nets need.”

Good for him. I’m glad he was able to use the opportunity he had here to generate options for staying in the league.

I mentioned FVV's opt-in earlier. My prediction around that is this:
PJ/Klay
for
FVV/Eason
FVV is a Masai guy and fills a need (and only has a year left and wipes PJ's salary for 2027).
Eason will command too much money to be a backup in Houston. He should be a starter somewhere and would fit very nicely next to Flagg (with Naji off the bench behind him). He misses time every year, but his On Court numbers are really strong and he fits in well with the defensive presence we are building.
Lively/Gafford/Cisse
Flagg/Morez/
Eason/Naji/Martin
Christie/de Larrea/AJ Johnson
Irving/FVV/Nembhard
It kind of explains why there aren't any real rumors. FVV has not been trade eligible and Eason is RFA. No need for a Sexton or a Simons type if we have a FVV rental for a year.

I guess I don’t hate it, but it feels more like a lateral move. I’d rather have PJ than Eason. People don’t like PJ’s fit because he’s a “poor shooter” next to Flagg. Eason is even worse. Plays fewer games. Worse offensively. Both are plus defenders, but PJ is the better rebounder and rim protector. I guess Eason is a year or two younger?
FVV doesn’t move the needle for me either. Just feels like doing something to do something…

The only reason to add a forward at this point is to add shooting.
Cam Johnson and Risacher are the only two forward names we’ve talked about that would make any sense, as far as I’m concerned, because they can shoot.

A healthy Fred would be a significant boost to this roster, more so than any of the free agent 6th man that has been discussed. I'm not sure Eason is a worse three point shooter than PJ. He was better last season and was only 24. That trade would make this team quite a bit better.

Can someone explain why we want to trade PJ? I think he is exactly what Masai likes, and he has a ton of value on a contending team.

I’m kind of tired of typing “if healthy” every other post. Eason plays less games than PJ. Fact. He’s a worse 3PT shooter both by volume and by percentage. Fact. And he’s 25. FVV is old and coming off an ACL injury, same as Kyrie, who you’ve been preaching the Mavs should trade away for assets due to timeline..
Again, I don’t hate the idea. Just feels like doing something to do something.

Any chance Houston would go for Klay and Martin and save the $6 million?

Various notes:
1 OKC has to lose about 7M to get under A2, as mentioned. But they have 16 players right now, so a 1-for-0 or 2-for-1 that reduces salary would not require them to refill the salary slot. If you're keeping score, both Wallace and Jay Williams make around 7.5M. One other possibility is that they kept Dort on TO at 17.7M, but perhaps did that TO because they have found a taker for him in some sort of 2026-27 deal.
2 The idea of Duren chasing offers isn't likely to gain much traction, since the BEST offer he can get is the very same money DET already offered, and he's RFA so they have matching rights. If DET hasn't soured on him, they are certainly holding all the cards.
3 The idea of FVV is good on paper, but the whole equation about such a trade has to be strongly subject to how bad he is injured (still). But if he is healthy enough to be a veteran influence on a Mavs team needing a strong PG to guide them, with potential for more years ahead perhaps, the Masai link would offer a good connection. (Then again, Masai let him walk to HOU as a FA rather than pay him, so there's that.)
4 I don't see Risacher as a valued target. And he is likely to be way overpriced, because "****Overall #1 Pick****" is part of the hype.

5. It feels like Schmitz's old team has too many PG's and he new team doesn't have enough.

This is the pipe dream I’m currently focused on. Unlike almost any other team, they have YOUNG ones they might want to unload.
It’s not that I don’t think FVV helps, I’m just not going to get excited about moves for people that age. Not right now. That doesn’t mean they won’t do something like that, it just means I won’t be excited about it.

Eason played more games the last two season than PJ. He has had one bad health season.
Eason shot more volume and higher percent than PJ last season. His volume has been trending up every season and just turned 25 (I said he was 24, which he was during the entire season). PJ volume has been down last two seasons with no Luka. Eason trending in better direction and three years younger. I think its roughly a wash.
I was willing to trade Kyrie away for a lottery pick. Fred is two years younger and we are basically sending Klay for him. I don't really know why this trade would even be entertained by Houston.

I don’t think either team does it. HOU need Guards same as Mavs. Which is kind of my whole thing. Doing something to do something.
I’d much rather sign someone like Sexton, Simons, Ellis for “free” than do something like this.

Won't be surprised if the Mavs' target is Giddey.
Chicago has 3 PGs, probably 5 even if you count the other guards who can do spot duties.
They have Claxton at C, so if Gafford is one of the tradables, he'd be shipped to another team.
They have Smith and Okoro as throw-ins to expand the trade.
So do the Mavs with Caleb.
Klay can be a possibility for an expanded trade to a third team.
But this is much simpler:
Though I wouldn't really want to give-up Max, Giddey for Max+fillers work.

Yeah, I guess we can agree to disagree. I think that trade is effectively free as I think Eason and PJ are a wash and Klay is not significant value.

Any chance the Mavs are trying to build a trade around PJ plus other parts for Wallace? What would that trade even look like? Also, what would you guys be willing to give Wallace on a new deal?
