Nine-year NBA veteran Malik Beasley has been indicted on federal charges for gambling related to a sports betting scheme, such as point shaving and prop bets, his attorney Steve Haney tells ESPN. The government is coordinating a voluntary surrender of Beasley this week. https://www.reddit.com/r/NBAGossips/comm...der_a_new/

Five weeks ago, I sat across from Dundon in North Carolina, and he told me that he had watched “Untold: Jail Blazers,” the Netflix documentary on the era that has defined modern Trail Blazers history, on a flight from Dallas to Raleigh. What he saw, he said, disgusted him. Not the flagrant and unapologetic drug use, the rape allegation or the bad attitudes, but the way fans turned on their team. His takeaway: The players didn’t do anything. Indeed, they were not caught on film waving around a handgun in a Colorado nightclub. When I had that conversation with Dundon in Raleigh, he said that he felt fans of the Portland teams of the early 2000s were too quick to latch onto negativity toward Blazers players. Damon’s weed. Rasheed’s tantrums. Bonzi’s birdie finger. Fans resented it all. “Hopefully,” Dundon told me, “we’ll create a product where that’s not a choice.” Indeed, there should be no choice at all for Blazers fans. The only option is unrestrained fury.

Thinking about the short time frames of the LAL contracts and knowing that Luka starts next season (26/27) on year one of a 2+1(PO) contract...
His next Max is going to put him in the neighborhood of $70M/yr on average and the LALs would be committing ~$360M over 5 years. Probably more as I'm uncertain of some of the annual increases.
DAL was in a similar position a few years ago (exacerbated by Luka's ongoing physical problems) of having to designate a huge portion of their payroll to one player. They solved by trading him to LAL for a bag of beans.
Just wondering, if they don't appear to challenge for the championship, whether LAL gets similar cold feet and is hedging by preparing to rebuild in a post-Luka era through not carrying any albatross contracts? I mean, Luka's dealing with personal issues this summer and doesn't have the revenge motivation he had last summer, so who knows what next season holds for the LALs.. But they are only go as far as Luka takes them. If that's not far enough, do they move on?

With all the big moves, there should be some really good teams next season, and to me the ones who look like they have positioned themselves the best are mostly in the East.. It looks like a major fight ahead just to get a top-6 playoff spot:
NY
PHI
TOR
MIA
ATL
CLE?
DET?
BOS?
In the West I only see 3 teams ready to land in the top tier, and then a world of opportunity below that for playoff spots:
SA
OKC
DEN
Clearly (to me) a big step lower, with many many questions marks,, would be LAL, MINN, HOU, POR?, PHX?, GS?, maybe UT?
It should make for an interesting, unpredictable season.

Do you feel like Denver improved?
They haven’t signed Watson yet, lost Hardaway, and Bagley won’t make any difference - and are historically cheap and will lose a player or two.
I think they should have tried to get Brown for a package similar to the Sixers one and formed a true tier 1 team.

I think the Nuggets have a legit MVP-level star to carry them, and a lot of very useful players around him. Whether they have enough to win a title, they will still be in the very top tier imo. And once you get to the playoffs and can get past a round or two, if you get on a roll, who knows? See Knicks, New York.
I think they still have some tweaking left, but they'll figure out a solution that fits their style.

Quote:The one free throw rule will be tested at the upcoming NBA summer leagues. With this rule, any foul that would typically result in one, two or three free throws under standard NBA rules will instead result in a single free throw attempt. That attempt will be worth the same total number of points as the free throws it replaces. Standard NBA free throw rules will apply during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and throughout overtime.

I actually think it would be more interesting if the timing around that implementation of that purposed role change were reversed. Still don't think I would like it though.

I will say the last 2 minutes of a NBA game take forever. I’ve rage quit watching some games after they go to commercial break like 7-8 times in the last two minutes of a game.

I will rarely watch a game live anymore, for that reason. I record, and then FF past the million commercials. It makes such a much more enjoyable watching experience.

What? That’s not odd at all. It’s called, “Mitch, you suck, but we like you as a person too much to fire you yet, so here it is.”

With all due respect, Billy has been an HC in the NBA for years. I wouldn't think he would seek to be an assistant for his next job.

Lots of HCs have to stay in the game if they're fired. The longer they are out, the harder it is to get back in.
Including Jason Kidd who went from HC to assistant at LA, and even Frank Vogel who won a ring.

I agree to some extent with this. However you need some sort of a hard cap. Else a few big market teams will always have an advantage.
Just throwing something out there with my half baked understanding of the whole cap. If a team has drafted or has had a player who has played with them for a minimum of 3 or maybe 4 years can there be some accommodation wrt aprons? If a team wants to keep a core that it drafted or developed for a long time don’t force them to break it up due to cap fears.

I do the same, except I just download it with pirating, and they remove the commercials, so less hustle for me.
There is a reasons fans are booing hydration break in the World Cup, Football/Soccer is one of the few remaining sports where you can watch the game without interruptions, and every fan wants to keep it the same
Basketball is insane for me in that regard. I don't have the necessary attention span to watch 48 minutes being played in 3 hours

Winning chip as assistant could boost his CV. Spurs are a good bet for that.

Jorge Sierra: Jaylen Brown won more games with Boston than Dave Cowens. (Cowens finished his Celtic career with two titles, one MVP and eight All-Star selections). Only 12 players have more wins in Boston than Brown. The youngest of those 12 are Paul Pierce and Larry Bird.
