It might be time to consider the F word (Fox).

You guys!
Let’s take a walk down memory lane. In 2023 during the regular season you guys were worried about Luka’s health, his arguing with refs, his lack of defense and lack of a roster around him. Then the team went to the finals. At the time you loved Nico. He was the guy you didn’t worry about. Then Nico traded Luka for a bag of beans and your world ended. Then the Mavs got Cooper and a few games into the start of the 2024-25 you worried that Cooper’s ceiling might only as a decent role player. Then Cooper went on to break every rookie record ever. So now, still gutted by Nico, the only Mavs person you ever trusted, you decided to be negative about Dumont. Then you were negative about what GM would want this sh*tshow. You worried that it was taking too long. Then we got a great President and you guys were negative about his lack of recent success. And you worried that he’d get a crappy GM. You worried that it was taking too long. Then we got a very respected basketball person as a GM. Then you worried we’d get a crappy coach. You worried it was taking too long. Then we got a coach everyone said we couldn’t get. A winner. So now you worry he won’t do well because he isn’t a seasoned pro coach. And you worry our first rounder can’t create his own shots. And you worry that our players who are no longer injured will be soon again. And the list goes on and on and on… And all the while you are ignoring that we now have the most competent leadership in our favorites teams history. Franchises work top down and the top is the best it’s ever been. No Jerry, no Cuban, no one to get in the way. So go ahead and worry while the rest of us enjoy the golden age of Mavs ball starting this year.

The list of teams that may be interested in the Mavs vets seemed to have shrunk. Here's a few things that could still make sense on some level:
Irving: HOU: Kyrie Irving DAL: Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard, '27 FRP (Owns Swap rights with BKN), '29 FRP Gafford: LAL: Daniel Gafford DAL: Jake LaRavia, Dalton Knecht, '31 FRP TOR: Daniel Gafford DAL: Jakob Poeltl, '27 FRP, '29 FRP Klay: SAS: Klay Thompson DAL: Keldon Johnson, ’28 SRP PJW: SAS: PJ Washington DAL: Keldon Johnson, ’28-'30-'31-'32 SRPs, '30 FRP Swap rights returned Use of TPE: DEN: Klay Thompson, Caleb Martin, TPE DAL: Cam Johnson, Christian Braun, '28-'30-'31 FRP Swap rights OKC: TPE, '29 FRP (LAL) DAL: Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe

When I say Tuesday night was depressing, I mean in general how it played out. I’m not gonna pretend like I know Burries will be better than Morez Johnson. I had my heart set on a PG.

One other issue with Wallace - in a year, he is a FA who will be looking for massive money that wrecks your payroll. I think he's a ticking time bomb, wherever he is. But I love the potential talent fit.

I'm way behind the discussion, but wondering about this swap idea ...
MINN gets Martin (2 yrs), Johnson (exp) DAL gets Josh Green (exp) Salary is about a wash in year 1. Mavs get a needed roster space, and finally end their Martin saga. MINN gets an extra year of Martin, but if he's needed for them, his 10M salary lasting another year probably is a plus. If MINN had a 2nd to send, that would probably balance the trade values better, but I would probably pull the trigger anyhow.

BTW it sounds like the russian killer is coming over right away. Dude looks super promising. I hope they at least sign him to a two way deal.
The same goes for De Larrea but he might be a bench option right away. Dude should work wonders for our offensive flow as a secondary playmaker.

The reports were that they tried to. Maybe they lowballed him but that is multiple teams he didn’t come to terms with. |
