2026 NBA draft thread
(06-23-2026, 09:56 PM)mvossman Wrote: I'm not calling it a catastrophic mistake (that would be Mara).  But this is not a position of need for a team that had a lot of needs.  Maybe Lively is never going to be able to stay on the court and then it was a position of need.  But that is just an indication of how far this team is.  The odds of them getting near that point before Kyrie is in hard decline is much less likely now.  This is simply a sign that we are looking at a longer rebuild than a lot of folks on here were hoping.

I get the frustration. I do.

But, once you wrap your head around the (apparent) fact that they did NOT love Burries...who else was left?

Kinda seems like it was Ament or their pick of the Michigan dudes. I personally would've preferred Ament, but I think they picked the best of the Michigan dudes BY FAR. And he's a much, much safer pick than Ament, I'm sure you'll agree.

Might as well.  Looks we are headed down the Toronto path of 20 athletic forwards that can't shoot.

Which means they are losing either Lebron or Reaves this summer.
There must be something more to this. That would be idiotic of them. If true, another domino for Luka to return.

Are you sure the first part is true? AI disagrees Smile

In any case, assuming Lakers go the cap space way, they will still be far from the first apron after resigning Reaves. Reaves has a 20 mil cap hold, so he only adds some 20 mil above the salary cap and there is 50 mil of room between salary cap and first apron.

Evans is best available for me. Have him at 21. Him or Thomas feel like good fits here. Shooters shoot.

I do.  I'm just saying this needs to set expectations.  This team is not going to be good (offensively) for a while.  It will be interesting to see how Burries turns out.  I don't think he is in a great situation like he would have been here.  Lets see what else they can do.  I'm already disappointed they didn't move up from 30 to get some offense.  All that is left is projects.

I also understand the frustration because Morez came up the boards late and he was not a consensus pick that we all had time to think over and accept. However, I also don't see Morez as purely a 5 to replace Lively or Gafford. If so, his value immediately drops for me.

I see him as someone who can guard the 3,4 or 5 and can do enough offensively to keep defenses not cheating off him on Flagg. His highlights show a guy who moves very well without the ball and also one who can catch the ball and take that one driibble to weave in traffic and score. His outside shot also holds promise.

As it stands now, Meleek is clear best for Mavs. Fingers crossed.

if mavs go guard at 30, i’d watch jack kayil or meleek thomas

they did meet with isaiah evans (wing shooter) at the combine

So far, Isaac has been spot on the entire draft process and even the coaching hire.

Karaban is also going to be a good pro. Provides no creation though. He would be high on my list too

I really it would be him plus someone does though.

Need to upgrade Kornet and limit Wemby's minutes in the regular season so I'd say it's very sane.

Evans or Peat is a nice gamble. Thomas athletic numbers are a gigantic red flag, though I´d still like the pick. Agility, hands, wingspan.

It felt like a move down to get a cheaper payroll (working to stay under A2), rather than because of the cash being sent. Yeah, I also was thinking we'll be glad to get them down to 30 if that helps!
