If it is, I love this guy. Everyone of his players plays for him. Hard.
And that's been true everywhere he's been.

Michigan coach Dusty May is finalizing a deal to take the Dallas Mavericks head coaching job, sources told ESPN, an axis-shifting move that significantly alters the college and NBA landscape. May, 49, led Michigan basketball to the national title in 2026. He'll coach a franchise with Cooper Flagg as a linchpin piece. The Mavericks fired Jason Kidd after a 26-56 season last year.

We first reported June 4 that the Mavericks were pursuing both May and Duke's Jon Scheyer in addition to interviewing several current NBA assistants and three-time former NBA head coach Terry Stotts.
Luring May away from Michigan was seen a serious longshot, but Dallas did it.

Morez Johnson just jumped Burries for my personal prediction.

He makes more sense at 12. Is Steinbach the backup plan in case someone grabs him before 12?
Joe competes with Christie at SG and who at 17? Stirtz? Okorie? Is Philon stil there?

I can't post it here, but about three weeks ago I went and looked at May's history at the college level.
Everywhere he's ever been, his teams have gotten better - and in some cases by a lot. He really has had some kind of magic with his teams. Of course, the NBA is a different animal so you never know, but I'm sure this FO did due diligence in talking to people where he's been. It's really impressive.

People were skeptical that Dusty May would leave Michigan for the NBA before the 2026-27 season, but he was a highly coveted coaching candidate.
The appeal of coaching a dynamic young talent like Cooper Flagg should not be understated.
The Dallas Mavericks are an appealing job.

We’ll see what level of influence Dusty May immediately has in Dallas’ decision tomorrow night at No. 9. Michigan has three players — Aday Mara, Morez Johnson Jr. and Yaxel Lendeborg — who are all viewed as strong candidates to be picked in the late lottery. And May surely has information from rival teams on all three of those players’ realistic landing spots.

Doesnt have to be via trading back. They have a lot of veterans they can move for additional draft capital.
Is Kyrie Irving a Dusty May type of player? Or PJ? I have no clue what this hiring means in regards to their future.
But I am genuinely excited about hiring him. He made it to the mountain top and seems like a great basketball mind.
And infinetely more eloquent than Kidd. We will see how far he can lead this team but at least the way this team is represented publicy will be drastically improved.
