Dallas frees itself from Klay’s money next year. GS gets something for Kuminga, at a lower price.
The assumption is that Dallas doesn’t want Kuminga, and lets him walk.
Kuminga on the Warriors might be a more depressed asset than AD on the Mavs because of how sour the relationship is. I'd think the sweetener would come back to the Mavs, even putting my fandom aside.

Quick napkin numbers. If my quick calc are accurate --
Mavs now have about 7.5M in room under the cap line.
They also should have TPE for 19Mish and 6M.
In the summer they will start at about the cap, with about 35M under the tax line.
They do have opportunity to perhaps use a TPE now as a facilitator, and pick up a pick. Or even go back over the tax line, offering BIG help for even more salary. Either way they won't be paying repeater tax (or any tax) next season.

GS would need to trade for Giannis before they consider adding a role player like Klay. They know their team is cooked without a big addition.

Having their 2030 could make us a useful cog in that pursuit.

The Mavs could try to get their 2027 pick back from the Hornets...
- Hornets get: Jonathan Kuminga
- Warriors get: Klay Thompson or Daniel Gafford + their 2030 pick back
- Mavericks get: Miles Bridges + their 2027 pick back

I think it's fair to ask if Michael Finley is the Joe Dumars of Texas?
The Mavs could/should have tried to get Kyshawn George back from this AD deal.

It's sad to see how far Middleton has fallen. Just a few years ago he was a core player for a contending PHI team and now his worth is just as an expiring contract.
Bagley, a former #2 pick, has never seemed to find his rhythm regardless of where he lands.

I spent a little time looking at him recently (can't recall the deal I was trying to construct). He's an RFA this summer. My view is he is a bench scorer...basically a Hardy replacement. Not much D, so probably not a starter. But, efficient scoring from multiple spots on the floor. I'd say worth keeping, but not good enough to displace Max Christie.
Johnson is a statistical disaster. Nothing about him looks good. But, he's very athletic and quick and has good positional size for a PG. Basically, a late first project. His highest minutes games of the season were his last two and he was 17 points and 14 points on high usage and good shooting in both (and crazy high TO's on one of them). Those two games are huge outliers, but I like the pickup as kind of a high upside (low floor) shot in a position of need. I hope they play the crap out of him the rest of the season. Maybe he develops, but he probably also helps the tank. Could be fun to watch if he does develop.

It is probably too much to ask, but I hope they do spend some of that space under the tax (or even go over the line to your point) to either take on salary for picks or grab someone in pre-agency who is young and has upside.

You think Kuminga is worth Miles Bridges + Mavs 2027 pick? If yes, wouldn't it make more sense for GSW to take that package instead of Klay?

In this video it show Branaham can score in a variety of ways from anywhere on the half court. He has a great stroke with a good arc and height. I would like to see how he plays on defense. To be a complete player you need to play both offense and defense.

I wonder how many of the AD trade picks are going to need to be included for us to off-load Martin.
Or perhaps that's no longer a priority with their cap situation next year.

It will be interesting to watch him. I would guess he doesn't stay here long. I think AJ Johnson is someone to look at more closely. Again, probably not a real hit, but I have liked some of what I have seen of him. A long way away, but only 21.

You make a good point. I guess it will be upto to the Mavs to add something to this. Perhaps, add another team's pick to get back their own? Or hope that GSW really doesn't want Bridges.
Each of Kuminga, Bridges and Klay are also signed to 1 more year @ $24.30m, $22.83m, and $16.67m respectively.

I'd rather dump him with other useful players if those players can't command a 1st (Gafford, Naji, etc.).

LOL. Even as an AD hater, these guys are idiots. Watch Washington trade him to Cleveland in the summer for a much bigger haul.
EDIT: Oh two first round picks. I read five 2nd round picks. Need to evaluate further.

How long is it protected? Like if we don't get it in 2030 , do we get another try next year? Second round picks? Nothing?

That´s my main question, too. That pick will easily be in the bottom 20 in 2030.
I like that they got a 1st in the 2026 draft, even if it will be #29/#30 pick.
The cap relief is nice, but damn get rid of Martin, too.
Is the trade exception big enough to turn it into Poeltl? Then I get not including Martin. That would almost be like the Mavs moving with a plan.
Get at least the Raptors 2026 1st round pick? I want two picks, but we can negotiate.
Maybe on 2nd look they have done well, IF they can immediately use the trade exception to make another deal for draft capital.
Also haha the minutes for AJ Johnson the last three games. This clearly was in the works for a few days now and they showcased him to the Mavs.
Nevertheless I´m worried AD will be headed to Cleveland in the summer.
