Trade & FA 2025-26: Free Agency Starts 5pm CST/6pm EST
The Mavs FO probably gets a little gold star for this...

1. The kept it quiet. No one saw it coming.
2. they bargained in the media with "we can wait until summer"
3. They positioned themselves financially and picked up a little draft compensation

It didn't have to be great. But it needed to be good.

They dont have anything to trade on their roster that would get the 2027 pick back from the Hornets.

Now there is no hurry to trade Gafford. He slots in as your starting C next year. Let him and Lively play without worrying about AD.

Random idea from the Discord: The future Warriors pick seems weak since it's top-20 protected but maybe the Warriors would take it for Kuminga.

If the Hornets wanted a Mavs player, we could bundle OKC's 26 and GSW 27 to help grease the wheels.

I can't believe Martin is still here. Surely we can find a place for him.

Actually they have a lot more opportunities to balance out the roster now.  They may not even be done before the TDL and they have a lot more room to maneuver in the summer.

Well, since my interest in Kuminga started and ended with his expiring salary and the Mavs' financial problems are handled for the time being...I suppose I'd rather have whatever 2nd round pick that asset is really going to become.

The Wiz prolly said F that.  We are going to be stuck with him for a while.

Fascinating trade between two guys who typically win trades in Morey and Presti.  I heard Dieng could be in that trade???

McCain was really good to start his career.  He has been bad this year after knee surgery.   I think he can still be a good player but hasn't looked it this year.   Good shooter and smart player.

If Dieng, that is an interesting buy low guy.   Boxed out for minutes in OKC.  Sort of like OMAX.   Has the size and athleticism everyone looks for, but just hasn't worked on the court yet.

Interesting.   Warriors would probably only do this if they had another deal in the works for a bigger piece, right?

I was surprised they took DLo and Hardy.

For example, trading Gafford for Mathurin (pending RFA) could be on the table. It will be interesting to see if there are any follow-up deals lined up.

Yes, I'm hoping we go into Pre-Agency in the next 24 hours and add someone useful.

Been refreshing all morning hoping something would happen. Then take 30 minutes to run an errand and BOOM it happens.

Have to admit that I didn't have WAS on my bingo card.

I don't love the picks we got, but at least there are 5. The 2 guys under contract we received are at least very young. And I'm honestly impressed by how much bad money we dumped. I didn't think that would be possible. There's so much more flexibility now.

BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Thinking more about it, I really like this trade for both teams. OKC gets a cost controlled rotation player that will come handy next season when they get expensive. Assuming they don't do any other moves, Dieng will be cut to open roster spot for McCain. He never really got the opportunity in OKC, but there could be some hidden upside for someone to give it a try on vet min deal (second year non-guaranteed). Athletic player that might not be a complete non shooter. I saw him play a couple of times and he looked solid.

Philly had too many guards so they got a good compensation for a player they don't really need.

Seems like Middleton will be bought out. Bagley actually isn’t that bad of a player. He’s become a very efficient shooter and rebounder. But, I doubt he stays. He’s not bad though. Could help another team. Could he be rerouted as part of another trade?

My thoughts exactly related to Dieng. Still only 22. Another player I kind of hope Lakers would take a chance on.

Anybody have a quick assessment of the salary cap status after the trade? The online sites like Sportrac and Basketball Reference haven't caught up yet.

I don't understand the people that are dumping all over this AD trade. What exactly were you expecting to receive for a guy with his playing history and age? Maybe you're the same ones that thought The Luka deal wasn't a terrible deal because AD was an all star? This clears so much more space and gives them flexibility to improve the team on Cooper's timeline.
