2025 draft thread: THE MAVS SELECT COOPER FLAGG
So, for those of us who only watch the Pros, how good is Cooper Flagg? lol

I am so happy and so worried. As someone wrote every GM is calling Nico right now. I hope he does not trade the pick even for Giannis let alone a KD.

I was going to say that no one is dumb enough to trade the #1 pick for KD at this stage in his career, but then I remember our GM is Nico Harrison. Giannis would not surprise me in the least though.

No way they trade for Giannis or KD. Only trade I would even consider would be for the #2, #14, the Mav’s future pick back, a solid role player, and some salary relief. Harper really is an excellent prospect. I wouldn’t put it past Nico. The city will riot though so can’t see the Mavs doing that.

I think he is really good.   Not Wemby level prospect.   Maybe some would rate Zion above him when he came out.  But right up there.  The thing that makes him really unique is how good of a defender and playmaker he is.  He can impact games scoring 6 points.   Plus, he is the youngest player in the draft.

I didn't watch many games of Duke...maybe 5-6.   Check his highlights though.  A mix of eye opening athletic moves and just simple smart basketball plays.

Spurs and Jazz were tanking hard for him. Teams only rank that hard for what they perceive as special talents.  Of course Nico might ship the pick anyway.

Duke’s Cooper Flagg’s official measurements from the NBA Draft Combine:

6’7 ¾ barefoot, 221 lbs, with a 7’0” wingspan and 8’10 ½" standing reach

Flagg grew nearly an inch in the past year, while adding 12 pounds.

It sucks.  I like PJ.  Wasn't crazy about him at SF though.   He is a warrior though, but it makes sense to move him.    I wonder what you could get for him.  Hopefully a similar level player but a good shooter and dribbler.   It is tricky though.  With one year left on his contract, you probably need to find a player in a similar length of contract.   Unless PJ really wants to sign there.  Coby White?

Sure this team should be good in the short term, but they have the start of a real nice young nucleus in Flagg and Lively.  So even when AD and Kyrie get old or injured, there is something to look forward too.

Suddenly the team who owned swaps and future picks are bummed again.

I think you move PJ.  Good player.  He has one more year left and he won't want to be a bench player.  See what you could get for him.  Can you get a good big guard?

I didn't watch much Duke this year, but I did watch highlights.  Flagg is such a smart player.  Just plays the right way.    He is really a good play maker with their bigs too.  Finally our bigs may get some more opportunities.

Happy for Mavs fans.

I wonder if we could get a back half of the lotto pick for PJ, perhaps draft a guard? Maybe the kid from Illinois if he’ still around.

It will be weird having a two-way player be the focal point of the franchise for the first time in a loooong time.

Short term AD, Flagg and Lively should be dynamic on defense.  Although moving forward Lively and Flagg should also be really good for 10 years...health permiting.

Rigged or not, Nico just got his lifeline. After seeing the reaction to trading Luka, he is not going to throw away the chance to draft Flagg. They are going for the 2006 Miami Heat and hoping that Flagg can be their Dwyane Wade

I would trade AD plus picks for Giannis.....just thinking out loud.  Have MIL get a bounty for AD.   Nico won't though.

Cooper is great. He’s barely old enough to play in the NBA. Best US prospect since LeBron. He’s a rich man’s Scotty Pippen. People have been waiting on him for a long time.

I said it before, but I'd be listening to offers for AD and most of the rest of the supporting cast and I'd be saying goodbye to Kyrie should he decide to opt out.

#1 for Giannis (with the Kidd connection)
#1 for #3 + PG 13 (defense wins championship Nico)
#1 for #2, #14 and we even give you the swap back (Nico you can draft a nice PG at #2 and we give you an extra pick)

Pelinka is probably on Nico´s couch and talking him into  #1 + PJ + Klay + Lively for Lebron.  Big Grin

They are 100% trading Flagg for Giannis imho. Nico needs to win now and Kidd will push for this so hard. Milwaukee will be happy. It basically comes down to ownership. Nobody else stops that deal and I would bet Nico throws in Lively as well.

By far and away the best american prospect since Lebron. I know that is thrown out there a lot. But its deserved in this case.

  • Paolo Banchero
  • Cade Cunningham
  • Anthony Edwards
  • Zion
  • Markelle Fultz
  • Anthony Davis
  • Kyrie Irving
  • John Wall
  • Blake Griffin
  • Derrick Rose
  • Greg Oden
  • Dwight Howard
  • Lebron James

Of the last 22 years, 13 1st overall picks have been American. These are the guys. Of them, Flagg has the least amount of flaws. He's at least the best of them since Anthony Davis. Watching him, he reminds me a bit of like Kevin Durant was fused with Andrei Kirilenko. He makes the right play every time, but is a 2-way threat.

He's a 6'10 switchable forward who can literally do it all.

AD, PJ, and a 1st for Giannis.  Is that enough? Still need a guard with that trade though LOL

I think you move Gafford and have Lively as the five with Davis as his backup, Davis at the four with PJ as his backup and Cooper at the three also with PJ as his backup. Gives you much more versatility and skill than having 2 pure centers and Davis, whose most impactful position is also the five.
