The damage is already done but he could make this a wasteland for 10 years plus easy if he keeps the keys. It's funny because next 3/4 years will be mediocre at max for sure. No hope in that span. He is pretty done.

Can imagine the Luka movie starting with old Nico in a wheelchair rambling defenses win championships. So Nico is Nico Salieri who killed Amadeus (Luka) because he was upset that fat lazy Luka had insane God given talent while Nico who has lived by the Mamba cred was nothing more than a decent college player in a weak conference. Now it all makes sense.

I don't want to write about this in the game thread, but Dan asked himself, why this stupid press thing was done before the game.
Media guys (Stein, MacMahon) think Dumont demanded this to happen. Initial plan was to be had before the Luka homecoming game, which would make more sense. No one is sure why they postponed it. It seems they all lived in a delusion that Luka homecomijng game will put a closure to everything. I think the only explanation that makes sense is that this presser is a preparation for firing Nico. I can't imagine Mavs moving forward with all the noise. Players could ask themselves, if they really want to be part of this mess. But if you fire Nico, I think everything gets quiet. Dumont can hide from media, Kidd officially wasn't involved in the Luka trade, new guy is just here to clean the mess.

That assumes that ownership has a plan and the acumen to run a basketball organization. I could easily see MBT2.doh convince themselves this is a snakebit season due to injury and at least runout the groundball on Nico's masterplan. I'd be really surprised if Nico isn't around starting next season.

Give him a chance to speak now since he won’t be here for exit interviews. The thing that doesn’t fit that narrative well is the plan to do this prior to the Luka homecoming. I tend to agree that this long national nightmare won’t end as long as Nico is here. It will be the same conversation for as far as the eyes can see. With the injury histories of our top players, Nico is not likely to ever get to prove the theory he’s selling.

I guess it depends how you paint the cupboard empty years that will come after Nico's tenure. Digging out of the hole he's created is going to be a nightmare for someone. The Mavs franchise was due for a long lull as not many teams go from one all-timer to another. Nico just accelerated our trip to the doldrums by getting rid of Luka a hair too early. |
