AROUND the NBA:
I stayed up and watched the Jazz vs Suns game last night off and on. KD and Beal were out, but man the Suns don't have much. It took two miraculous threes by Allen in the last 4 seconds to bring the game to overtime. PHX eventually won. I will be suprised if that team does anything this year...even when healthy.

As mentioned above, Utah should have won after a really nice comeback. One player who impressed me was their rookie Collier. He was a former top recruit who struggled as a freshman. I thought he would be like a Hardy player who is mostly a scorer. I was really impressed with him running an offense and getting into the paint whenever he wanted. He looks much more like a point than Keyonte George. Collier impressed me.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will be sidelined through the next week due to a mild calf strain and will miss the NBA All-Star Game next Sunday, sources tell ESPN. Antetokounmpo, out since Feb. 2, is expected to return to action shortly after All-Star break.
14x All-Star, 12x all-NBA, 1x MVP, 1x Finals MVP, 1 NBA Championship: Dirk Nowitzki, the man, the myth, the legend.

On the broadcast just now, Lisa Salters just relayed after talking with Embiid that he believes “It will likely take another surgery and a long recovery period" to get his knee right

Which, notably, is not what the team has said!

couldn't even get through a Hubie Brown goodbye broadcast without "Joel Embiid thinks he needs another surgery" taking over the story lol

Surgery is even worse news than it seems, at this point. I'm no doctor, but I watched a video of one recently explaining that eveytime someone has knee surgery, they're basically shaving the damaged part of the cartilage out so that it can heal, and sometimes even removing significant chunks of it. Multiple knee surgeries mean that at some point, the knee is just bone on bone, basically. So, it's not even just the deflation of having to wait through rehab AGAIN, it's honestly starting to be plausible that Embiid's career will be over soon.

Yea, he's basically following the Kawhii Leonard path.

Both players are going to have to load manage the rest of their careers.  No more back to backs, I think Embiid's situation is worse, because of his size.

Speaking of Kawhi. He had an adductor injury also. He got hurt 2/12/24. The All-Star break was 16-21 February, so he only missed one game before the break. He played on the 22nd.

Of all things, Mavs need some Kawhi Leonard luck!  Smile

Dirk Nowitzki, I’m told, will attend tonight’s game in Los Angeles to be present at the Laker debut of his close friend and former teammate Luka Dončić.

Oh wow.  Now I'm out on the trade.

Wow that certainly speaks volumes. I wonder if we will see Dirk at a Mavs game anytime soon?

Embiid seems to have more desire to play which I guess is understandable.

Somewhere in the hopefully not so distant future, I have dreams of a day where Nico and the Adelsons are gone, and Dirk in an official or unofficial capacity gets the hopefully slimmer and mature Luka back to Dallas.  So I am all for Dirk keeping that Mavs line open with Luka.

One can dream.  Nothing else left anyway.

DeMar DeRozan has the most clutch shots made in the
entire NBA over the last decade.

Cool, but useless stat.

A small but hopefully smile-inducing irony of the Lakers signing Alex Len? They waived Christian Wood to do it.

I wonder if Luka said "get me anyone but CWood" in his initial meeting with Pelinka.

Wood has been out all season with a knee injury and I think there was no clear timetable for return. Of course it is also possible Luka didn't say nice things about him, although Lakers had more than enough time to figure it out on their own, what is he worth.

Christian Wood is one of the greatest players of this generation, but coaches fail to put him in winning situations. Horrible mismanagement.

Definitely deserves a max contract.

I know, my dude. It was just a joke. Trying to laugh to keep myself from crying.
