AROUND the NBA:
Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania)
76ers’ Joel Embiid got in an altercation with a columnist following tonight’s game in Philadelphia. Embiid took issue with a recent column that referenced his late brother and son, and Embiid shoved the columnist. No punch.

Oh, boy, people will remember the Sixers season for all the wrong reasons. The team just dropped to 1-4 and Joel Embiid assaulted a reporter in the locker room.

This exchange between Joel Embiid and Marcus Hayes... has been building since his article. Embiid was very frustrated about it in the recent media availability.

Hayes bringing up Embiid’s late brother and son in a column about missing games is uncalled for and a personal attack.

NBA spokesman tells ESPN: “We are aware of reports of an incident in the Sixers locker room this evening and are commencing an investigation.”

"As reporters entered the locker room to talk to players, Embiid stood and confronted Hayes.

“The next time you bring up my dead brother and my son again, you are going to see what I’m going to do to you and I'm going to have to ... live with the consequences,” Embiid said to Hayes.

Embiid continued, with several instances of profanity in the next few sentences. Hayes offered an apology, which Embiid did not want. “That’s not the f——— first time.” Embiid said."

I would so provoke him into punching me and go down like an Argentine striker in the penalty box.

I don´t see any reason to bring up somebody´s dead brother or child in a work related article. I have very little love for Embiid, but that´s just BS. That is on Philly to credential the guy in the first place. Should have been given a lifetime ban.

Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George is expected to make his season debut on Monday vs. the Phoenix Suns, barring any setbacks, sources tell ESPN.

I agree. Keep the guy's family out of it, especially if they're deceased.  That was despicable I don't care if you like Embiid or not.

DJ Augustin officially announces his retirement. Decent little player, that had a good career.

96 minutes of PF and C in a game.  When healthy you'll see Harenstein and Chet get at least 60 of those minutes.

This seems like a reading comprehension problem.  I literally stated they would be sharing the court together at a minimum starting and finishing games.  But otherwise I expect they will stagger them as much as possible (similar to what we do with Luka and Kyrie) because Chet is a much harder matchup as a center.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich suffered a health issue before Saturday’s game and assistant Mitch Johnson is expected to be the interim head coach for indefinite period, including Monday vs. Clippers and Wednesday vs. Rockets, sources tell ESPN.

Embiid handled it better than I would.

Hardly.  I just finished Hooked on Phonics.

I may suggest the same for you (for your own writing, lol).  You wrote they would start and finish together, then stagger.  Do the math.  They'll be on the court together a lot more than that.

It looks like you failed your course.

My original statement was:

"They will still be on the court together (at the least starting and finishing games)"

To which you responded:

"Think OKC signed him to $86mill to play 15 mins of backup?"

Do you see how this response makes no sense compared to what I wrote?

As for doing the math, we can start with your 60 minutes between the two of them.  They could play 6 minutes as starters together and play 6 minutes finishing together and stagger the rest of the minutes like this:

Center:  Hart (30) Chet (18)
PF:        Chet (12)

But it doesn't even matter if the math checks out because if you go back and look at that original statement it says "at least" which means I never stated they would only start and finish games together.

I don't mind having disagreements, but I have a problem when replies to my posts imply I said things I didn't say.

Cavs are 8-0, tied for the best start in franchise history. OKC has double-digit victories in each of their 7-0 start. They're doing this without Hartenstein being out with injury. Evan Mobley has been a monster for Cleveland. He might be in the MIP discussion this year.

I totally thought the Mobley/Allen combo would not work.  Then Allen beasts last year, Mobley this year.  Garland is Garland.  Spider is Spider.  They're a starting SF away from being in the discussion of best starting 5.  They are paper thin, tho.  As with DEN I see them fading.

I think this is a fair outcome. While the journalist was out of line with his article, Embiid shouldn't reacted as he did. Physical force shouln't be recognized as a tool to solve our problems.

You don't consider their current starting wing Strus (starter on Miami team that went to the finals in 22/23) or his back-up LeVert (regular starter in Indiana before coming to Cleveland) as starting level SF?
