He plays bigger than he is, he’s got that dog in him, he’s young and is ready to break out with the right opportunity. Will he is the question? If the Mavs are having that deep a conversation about him, I’d suggest they think so.

If you look at Boston's recent trades, they have been deliberate and have gotten good value back. I think anything MLE level, they match and then see what they do at a later date. I think Williams is looking over MLE. So maybe it needs to be at a # that scares Boston away. Like 15-17 million per year. This is where relationships come in. I think Williams will need to say he wants to be in Dallas and it is his preferred location. I think this could bring Boston to the table to at least get something back. Rather than him signing with a team with cap space. (06-21-2023, 10:16 AM)DallasMaverick Wrote: Deleted, apparently. Interesting

I would be really disappointed in a Hood Shafino pick Cato's draft takes have been soooooo bad this summer. Why in the world would he think we'd be looking at a combo guard?

BPA and we have a dearth of talent? But I agree, saying he's a clear need and fit is dumb. I do like the point made about point of attack defender. Neither Luka nor Kyrie does that well.

Neither Luka nor Kyrie does that well. We're in a weird spot though where we have a dearth of talent in very specific areas, we have a crazy amount of talent in the backcourt though assuming Kyrie resigns. There will be talented wings available that deep so no reason to try to force a fit. I'm really hoping that Green can step into that role of POA defender. Bullock did a pretty decent job of it two seasons ago but he's declined so much it's a no go but in theory it feels like you may have that skillset on the roster with Green and he can potentially start alongside Luka and Kyrie. If he can fill that role then we're just trying to find our off ball wing defender and a new back line rim protector (which isn't an easy thing but at least it's clear cut). Side note, if we trade down, how do people feel about the big kid out of Indiana? Can't shoot but does a lot of the other things we need pretty well. Curious if his name gets linked to us in the late first if we end up down there.

My view was Lively was one of the targets for Dallas, but in a small trade down. I still think that is a solid plan but probably a lot more risk he goes before if the Mavs trade down. So if he is a real target, I would be hesitant to move to 15 or maybe even 14. There would be other players i like in that range, but we have some really big holes and we may be deciding on a shooting guard if we move back and Lively goes before we pick.
This time of year always makes me nervous. Who knows if the media reports are right but they have been in the past with this franchise. It just feels like the Mavs are street peddlers reaching out to teams looking for someone to bite. Most times the strike out and then do a panic type move. I really hope they are discplined and focused. One more thing, I really hope Lindsay is a mean SOB (he probably isn't). I just get a feeling that the Mavs front office is full with group think. They need someone to say WTF are you thinking here.

That's the thing. 10 is too high for Lively, but there are too many teams linked to him in the 11-14 range. The Mavs have to really want him to take him at 10, and GOP might have an aneurysm if they take him there. But a choice to trade down is a choice to draft someone else. Love your comments on Lindsay. I don't know that he needs to be a mean SOB. He just needs to be like Rosas to some extent - "You listen to what I'm saying, or I'm out the door."
