You're right that it's probably readily available, but unfortunately, bad long-term salary isn't a prize to obtain. Plus, the Mavs don't really have the room to take on big contracts for borderline players. They are just as limited as anyone, with lots of holes to fill and not much more salary that they can give.

Yea I was talking mostly just in reference to all the rumored deals with the Hawks for trying to shed salary going into the new CBA. They should be paying the Mavs, not the Mavs trading back from 10 to 15 for the expirings. So I'd think maybe a 3 way where Mavs trade back and then trade back up to 15 should be viable. It could be worth it if more picks/future picks are involved.

I mean, Beal for Shamet and CP3 sounds good deal even with bad deal he has. We built a good chunk of our championship this way.
Sometimes you have to take that bullet if you want to win a chip, but it has to be absolutely worth it tbh.
Now a Beal type of player is worth it, back in the day it was Butler and TC who were worth it

This deal shows what all in means and how much a chance for a title is worth. Phoenix pushed all their chips in for a two year window. No future after that really, if they win it or not. Difficult to imagine they will get anything worth for Durant and Beal in a couple of years. Father time will catch up with Durant too at some point in next couple of years.

They really did give up very little. It seems like teams are shocked they got him for guys they really didn’t even want and no first round picks (Phx didn’t have any anyway).
The odds are against them winning a championship and as mentioned this is another all in move. But I give them props. Now this could look horrible in 18 months. I would assume Ayton is not there within the year (maybe much sooner) but they can be patient with moving him now. I think. Sort of an odd pairing with those 3 (4 with Ayton) and I am not sure how it works out. But that is a lot of talent with their top level guys.

Interesting debate here. Obviously massive injury concerns. Although, if healthy and engaged he is a best player on a contender type of talent. Those very rarely come available.
For New Orleans their calculus is they appear to have an unhappy player and if he has another injury riddled season his value probably tanks 20-40% from where it is now. So do they cash in now and try to get Scoot or hold on to him?

Chris Paul is not a fit in Dallas, but I do think a PF/wing version of Paul is exactly what we need. There is a delicate balance between too old/too expensive vs great veteran help.
I would put Horford in this role as a Paul type veteran. Is there anymore out there who are available and can fill in for two years?

I am saying for years Mavs desperately need a lockerroom leader. A vet who has been around and done something. A very respected name. But he has to be still good to gather respect. That is why I was pro Horford (while he was in Philly and OKC) and Lowry. I think their contributions would go far beyond just the raw stats. Luka was winning in Europe when surrounded by a bunch of Spanish vets in Real. All big names in Europe, many of them also being in the NBA - Rudy Fernandez, Hernandez, Llull, Reyes,... Those guys know how to keep a hotheaded youngster in line.
That being said, I don't really see a lot of respected vets who could be readily available and can still contribute. I would love Draymond, but it seems he will stay in GSW. Steven Adams seems like a very stand up guy, but there is no indication Memphis has any wish to move him. Jae Crowder has seen a lot in his career, but not really that big of a name. Kyle Anderson really knows how to play (really high BBIQ) - not sure what his role in the Gobert incident was. I think Dragic has declined too much to make sense at this point. He would be great two years ago.

The Wizards are in full-blown rebuild mode now. They had to get off Beal's deal to expedite it. Now the question is will KP opt-in on his deal? The Wizards will now be the landing spot for teams to dump bad contracts, and in exchange, the Wizards will accumulate picks. They'll follow the OKC model for a rebuild.

Is it a foregone conclusion Charlotte at #2 is taking Miller?
If Scoot is available at #3, there should be some fireworks on draft night.

My favorite BAE dream if he doesn’t get a full MLE offer

Gilbert Arenas pushed the same narrative. Not sure if that is the smartest thing to do...

Kevin Love?
He also has history with Kyrie as well.
14x All-Star, 12x all-NBA, 1x MVP, 1x Finals MVP, 1 NBA Championship: Dirk Nowitzki, the man, the myth, the legend.

Forgot about him. Good proposal. Depending they can bring in two starters, I wouldn't mind him in FA at all.

Unfortunately, doesn't have the best relationship with defense.
