Why do I get the impression that Brunson's agent and/or dad is the source for both sides of the discussion here? The common theme seems to be to ratchet Brunson up to a max contract.

Said it was basically unanimous that you need to pay him that extra. He said he was surprised because how the league really fetishes over cap space.
Bobby Marks agreed. Said you can't risk losing him for money and having a pissed off Luka and not another scorer on the roster.
Lowe said he likes the fit with Brunson on the Knicks but that is a conversation for another day.
The whole extension storyline is a bad look for sure. Hindsight is of course flawless but the fact is Brunson would be on one of the best value contracts in the entire NBA had they inked that extension.
The “self own” is accurate and even worse when the main reason for not offering mid season was to keep trade options/value open. Brunson on a 4 year extension could have been one of the more valuable trade pieces in the league.
As far as his “camp” being pissed about it….duh. His camp is all Knicks ties whispering that in his ear at every possible moment.

2 Brunson for Burks would be my guess.
Which is terrible asset management and borderline GM/Owner malpractice.
1 Whether Burks would be with pick depends on whether NY can simply give him away, or whether it would have to be "and a pick" to get someone else to take him. I think it would take a pick to do it that way, especially in light of injury, so Mavs should be able to get the same deal.
I think it works the other way, too. Mavs wouldn't be able to get any MORE in a SNT than it would cost NY to do it without their help.
2 I'm not sure how this is "asset management" stuff at this point. Brunson is a FA and can sign wherever he wants.

Yes. Provided they meet all the other trade rules, there can be multiple players who are being snt'ed in the same deal. But some of the other rules with Brunson contract or Dallas cap might be an issue.

Can´t wait for the reports that Knicks offered Brunson + Powell for Randle to open a max capslot for 2023 and Cuban turned it down or asked for Fournier instead.

This is the general sentiment now. Its hindsight revisionist. There were a lot of folks adamant we don't offer the max extension, and no offense but you were one of them. I guess you can make the hindsight argument that most of us didn't see it but the FO should have because that is what they are paid to do, but calling it malpractice is wildly overstated. I also think there is a lot of posturing now, but there was thought even back then that Brunson would not take the extension because he wanted to try his hand in free agency and be the starting point guard (very few folks thought he would be starting this season, especially when Rick was still the head coach).

I don't see a scenario where the Knicks offer up Randle. I could be wrong, but I don't see it.

Right now their hypothetical cap situation for 2023 is....
Barrett 32.7 (caphold)
Randle 25.6
Brunson 25.0
Fournier 18.9
Toppin 6.8 (team option)
Quickley 4.1 (team option)
Grimes 2.3 (team option)
You remove Randle from that equation and you are at $89.8M and I assume Barrett´s caphold is higher than his eventual starting salary. Randle could be the difference between an easy pathway to max capspace and almost no capspace. Plus they eventually have to find out what they have in Toppin. Add all the drama last season.
I think it could be in play, although I guess the Knicks will try Fournier first.

Fun fact Brogdon is two years older than Randle and hasn´t played more than 64 games since his rookie season. The only way he can ride into town is on Myles Turner´s back.

I like Brogdon better. He is the better player and better fit. Injury history is a concern.

JB is definitely a good player. Steady, reliable. He proved he was starter material once THJ went down and was integral to the post-New Year success. But in April, although we wanted him back, nobody was talking about $25M+ per year. Even $20M/year was considered steep.
Then Luka got hurt in game 82 (stupid move, IMO) and DAL had to play a UTA team that was a lot of offense and limited on defense. So JB played well with Luka out and really went off in the last 2, which got the media talking. Then JB pretty much reverted to mid-season form once Luka was back doing Luka things.
So now there is a narrative that JB is worth max or near-max money because he's a steady player and stood out for a couple of games when given the chance. I'm not the smartest mind here, but I think JB's team has been able to gin up a bidding war between NYKs and DAL that will result in a contract someone will be looking to unload in the next few years for a new shinier toy. Yea for JB! I hope he gets paid well.
If NYKs are banking on JB producing like in the UTA series, good luck. He's going to actually be more like the PHX series. A good part of the team, but not transcendent. And probably not a first choice when building a team.
But personally, I'm ready to move on with the hopes of getting something useable from an SnT, maybe including a 2023 FRP to give DAL flexibility in future trades. You could even say that getting Reddish would be like getting one of the Luka picks back, so the draft day trade would really be just Luka for Trae.

5/100 is what I think he's worth. 5/125 is probably the high end of what I'd Cuban's money on. Anything over and I'd probably just let him go.

Probably rules out a Brunson/Robinson swap since the salaries will be so maligned.

I really hope we get the 23 back, but have no interest in Reddish. He won't be enough by himself anyways. Rather have Burks and our pick.

Hope the Mavs pull a rabbit out of the hat in replacing Brunson.
Reality is Brogdon is a better fit based on size and strength as a point of attack defender.
I advocated for starting JB before it was cool, but the biggest drawback is you need to start a guy like Bullock who can guard. If you replace Brunson with Brogdon (or a similar shooting guard who can defend) it opens up a lot of flexibility at the 3-4-5.
