Harper asks: “Jalen is a Maverick after this season if what happens?”
Rick Brunson: “Jalen is a Maverick, if we all sit down as a family and try to make the right decision for Jalen. At the end of the day, we will all give our opinion but Jalen makes the final decision. I know he loves it here, enjoys it here. If he decides to stay here, we are going to be happy. I don't see him looking to go anywhere but you never know. It's a business.”
This happened 9 days before the MacMahon article (Apr 25).
This happened the day of the Mavs first playoff game (Apr 16).
This happened before JB changed everything by dropping 24, 41, and 31 points without Luka and leading DAL to a 2-1 lead over UTA.
JB's games without Luka changed everything IMO. JB saw he could be the lead guard on a playoff team WITHOUT Luka.
Sure, JB's camp may be holding DAL captive to a larger offer in all this, but I think most importantly JB saw that he can lead a team to GREAT success without a guy like Luka.

I agree with you those three games changed the equation.
The most important part for JB to remember is that was 3 games. Can he/does he want to drag NY around for 82+ games is what he needs to be considering.
Julius Randle should be the cautionary tale for JB. He carried NY for a season. It was a grind. He got paid. Less than a year later and everyone wants him out of NY.

Personally I think at this point in the process, if you're an agent of a player in Brunson's situation and you don't have his team thinking that he's likely going to bolt for another team then you're not doing your job properly.
All the winds seem to be blowing towards NY right now (agent: "Dallas, you really need to offer more if you want my client to stay") and I wouldn't be surprised to start getting reports tomorrow that all the talk of Brunson heading to NY is overblown and that Brunson really prefers to stay in Dallas (agent: "Okay NY, Dallas as upped their offer, so you need to offer more if you want to stay in the game.)
I think there's a good chance this culminates in a max or very near max offer to Brunson from Dallas.
But I'm not an agent, so I could be way wrong on this

NYK knows exactly were Jalen and his situation stand at all times. Sam Rose (son of NYK GM, Leon) is Brunson's agent.
So them not knowing Jalen's desires and offers would be far fetched.

Can't blame Brunson, the organization and most of the fanbase disrespected him year-in-and-year-out. Now it's too late.
Shams apparently said Mavs poked around Kyrie. No idea to what extent but just tipping your toes in that venture is concerning. Is that because Brunson was deemed lost or was Cuban lost in the stars again?
I guess we'll find out soon, MacMahon is definitely going to get a great anti-Cuban/Mavs article out of this lol.
Congrats on the bag JB, good luck on the all-star campaign!

I mean it was always odd that they extended DFS, but not Brunson.

This makes no sense. When the Mavs extended DFS there is no way Brunson signs the max extension. It would have been insulting to offer it.

This fanbase disrespected Brunson? Wait to see what happens in NY if things don't go perfectly after all of the hoops NY is going through. Then you will see a player disrespected by a fanbase.

Agreed. I don't really see the big deal. I love Brunson but he is a PG. We currently have arguably the best PG in the league. See if you can get a wing back or something in a S&T. Brunson had a few really good games in the playoffs. But, he also got shutdown for a good bit of the GS series as well.
We didn't make the cut but thanks for all the support!
