That's a motely crew. I think I would prefer Jalen Smith to those guys. That would leave us with a very interesting big rotation.
Edit: Actually Gary Harris would be worth the tax MLE, but I think we are looking for someone bigger and he will probably get more than that.

3 Questions for the Board:
1) Is Jalen Smith worth the taxpayer MLE?
2) Can he coexist with Wood in the front court? Wood being the PF and Smith being the C?
3) When does the Josh Richardson trade exception expire? Can we use that to acquire a wing player?

Functionally expires when the draft is over. Theoretically the Mavs could be quite active on draft night with other deals in addition to the Wood trade.

I think Mavs have to either go all in for a true two way wing if opportunity comes or find a short term cheap solution. Some interesting FA for that: Prince, Jones Jr, Anderson, Porter.
I am not completely out on Harris, if the price would be THJ and Bertans. I doubt Philly would have any interest in that.

This is already shaping up to be a fantastic offseason. Barring another unforeseen trade, we will have 13 spots filled when we re-sign Brunson and Pinson. We can use the tax MLE to sign a wing like Otto Porter, DJJ, Taurean Prince, or Kyle Anderson, then maybe sign Dragic for the minimum to be the emergency guard + Luka mentor and call it an offseason.
Adding Wood, THJ (who can almost be thought of as a FA signing), Porter, and Dragic to the core 6 that just went to the WCF is a pretty nice talent infusion. Nice job Nico.

Rather than position, I want to look at the Mavs roster by groups:
POINTS:
Luka
Brunson
Dinwiddie
WINGS:
DFS
Bullock
THJ
Green
Ntilikina
BIGS:
Wood
Kleber
Powell
Bertans
At least one guy from each group will be playing at almost all times, and ideally two will be points. For wings, it's hard to see how THJ fits in with the Mavs' desire for another wing. If they do add another quality two-way wing, it seems like someone's got to go.
Other needs are 4th point and probably an additional big of the rebounding/shotblocking type, just in case. I wonder if Dragic is at the point in his career yet where he's willing to ride the bench and be a part-time player/full-time mentor.
So here's a trade idea: how about THJ and Josh Green to OKC for Derrick Favors, JaMychel Green, and the #34 pick. The Mavs can split the deal and absorb Ja. Green into the TPE to avoid the no-combining just-traded players rule. Mavs get a couple depth vets and can add a young talent, while making room to sign a backup wing.

Grant very much fits the profile for that two way big wing we need. Not really a star, but likely best it is theoretically possible this summer. Would you have confidence that adding Grant for THJ makes Mavs a legit contender? I would be very intrigued. If the answer to the question is yes, the number and protection on the picks is not very important (of course you make best deal you can).
Luka-Din
Brunson-Green, Ntilikina
DFS-Bullock-Pinson
Grant-Maxi-Bertants
Wood-Powell

Grant would be great, but I don't know that the Mavs have the assets for him right now. I know Detroit was interested in THJ before, but I imagine we have to add Green and 2 future 1sts at minimum.

I'm in a good mood so Dwight can stay and finish this contract in a nice 10 mpg role.
Just curious but, what do you guys see in Pinson besides cheerleader duties? He's never really been given a chance to play meaningful minutes.

I am 100% out on Grant for TWO 1sts. UGH, no chance in hell. I am not even sure I would do THJ plus one first. I just do not see him as a huge upgrade on THJ at all.

What about Matisse Thybulle? Kam shared a tweet that the Sixers were entertaining trades for him. Is he the defensive wing this team needs? Too small at 6’ 5”? Any realistic or possible ways to obtain him? What would it take?

Would be VERY interested....but I fear Morey's asking price.

I share that concern about his price.
But he is absolutely an upgrade in the rotation. He'd probably be the 2nd best defender on the team behind DFS.

You really want a 3rd perimeter defender who's an absolute zero on offense?

What would you be willing to give? I have no clue what would be considered realistic tbh. 2 FRP's and?? Just one future pick?

He's not Josh Green. He's been playing 25 MPG on a playoff team.

Yeah a team that's never made it past the 2nd round.
We don't need more players who can't provide an ounce of playoff offense.

He is ELITE as a defender (probably top 3 in the league?). He is SO MUCH better a defender than DFS, in a completely different class. It is the reason he is playable without a three point shot.

Definitely willing to give a 1st for Matisse, he has an elite NBA skill (defense). I might be willing to give two 1sts, depending on the other pieces in the trade.

I don't think there's any way I'd do that, but I appreciate the excitement
I'm not sure how you put together something for Thybulle, but it would almost have to include picks.
