Turner has lost as many (more) games as KP...availability is the most important attribute, I guess we'll agree...(if we're going to take a risk why not roll the dice with Isaak...?the fit would be absurdly good...) .. Then there are guys like Clarke/Vandervilt/Reid who I think would be a great fit for what we're building (could we get some in the trade??) + traditional center in FA (Cousins/Mcgee/Whiteside/Biyombo) cheap.. What do you think of Walker Kessler who is emerging in our range...? Send the pick to C.Wood..Could he fit into our defensive system?

One could argue adding a microwave scorer would do wonders... Mavs have THJ waiting for that role too.
How much better is this team with Timmy? Hard to say given how poor he was earlier this season, but it doesn't hurt to add more scoring. The guys also all love him.
The ideal upgrade to me is getting the starting C/PF and let Powell go to the bench. Maxi is basically our starting center right now anyways. The closest thing to Maxi that could might be available is John Collins who the Mavs have been angling for a while.

I like him too. I'm not sure I like his salary coming off the bench or how much that salary might impact other upgrades. Certainly, other players like Frankie, Boban, Burke, and Brown shouldn't be difficult to unload. Green might be attractive in a package. Bertans if we can manage something with the right partner.
TH is really the best trade piece we have if we need a big man. These other players should all be moveable. Bertans is the only problem contract.

Note, I didn’t say I don’t want us to add a center (or a good defensive wing for that matter). I said I’m starting to think it won’t happen. I totally agree Powell behind Turner would be fantastic. I totally agree that Maxi behind DFS would be fantastic. Is it realistic to make $16mm Bertans a zero-minutes 5th big? Fine with me as it isn’t my money. But, I’m dubious it happens in the real world.
As a thought exercise, if I could pretend there weren’t 31 other teams and money wasn’t an obstacle, I’d probably pick Turner over the other three as he defends and hits 3’s where Capela, Collins and Holmes only do one of those. Since I’m in fantasy land, I’d trade THJ for him with #26. That firms the C/PF rotation with Turner/Powell/DFS and Maxi. Bullock and Josh (top 25% in D-EPM and as a PNR defender and he’s still a baby) would be fine with me at the three and I’m good with the three guards taking the 1–2 minutes.
I think people spend way too much time working about expiring Brown, Burke and Boban. The killer is coming up with a way to move THJ and Bertans and add talent at the same time. MAYBE you can construct something with some draft capital to move one of them. Both? I doubt it. So, if you can’t move both, do you bring in someone who marginalizes the future value of the player you are stuck with (making it even more difficult to move these guys)? I see the need/desire to add talent. I’m just not sure it happens this summer.
If your argument is what it will be vs what we should be striving for, then you might be right. I just don't see how you can look at this roster when healthy and don't see a logjam in the backcourt and a gaping hole in the frontcourt.
If we are making roster decisions because we want to make sure Bertans gets his minutes I will lose my shit. The reality is that if we get a center, Maxi can slide some to 4 and DFS can slide some to 3. Plus some of these guys don't have the best injury history anyways.
Its hard to see any avenue to dumping Bertans salary anytime soon (I could be convinced to send Bertans and our pick for Holmes). I like THJ, but there are not a lot of room for minutes, especially if Green takes the next step. Anything that sends him out and brings a playable big would make a ton of sense.

I would argue that Turner is a closer match to Maxi than Collins, but I would be very happy with either.

There is a very obvious and simple solution that improves the centre and doesn't move Bertans to 5th big, if that is a problem. Outgoing salary is either Maxi or Powell. You still improve the position and Bertans keeps his role.
Do you see both of them signing new long term contracts next year? Long in their thirties. Best time to move them is either summer or TDL.

Cato believes it is more likely THJ is NOT with the Mavs than with them next season.
Cato also says that Dinwiddie was not traded for because JB might not be back, Dinwiddie was acquired simply because the Mavs wanted off of KP.

If Capela and Turner don't fit this defense, then you are not looking for a center at all. I think in the long run the tradeoffs are better playing a mobile defensive center instead of playing a defensive 4 at the center position.
To me Brunson/Collins are one step down from Allstar that's a star.
They are over "good starter" but maybe there is no hard cut.

If we can turn THJ and the pick into a decent center we absolutely have to do it

I'd say they are a step below or at the bottom end of the CJ McCollum spectrum.

Frontcourt to me is where the Mavs very clearly need an upgrade. Maxi and Powell are great guys but you can't rely on them as your full-time center rotation in the playoffs. Collins, Turner, Capela, Holmes... one of those guys would be an upgrade.
Bench wing is also a need but I think it will be easier to find production for cheap in that regard, just need to scout better than we did for Sterling Brown. And hopefully Green can improve.

Good thing the Mavs advanced to round 2. Should get a ton of information on how this defense holds up with Powell/Maxi vs Ayton.
I feel like Collins will be pricey to get. Much more expensive than the other options. If the Mavs don't get destroyed by Ayton then he'd be the ideal 5 then. I did feel like he was a better fit for the team with KP here though but we'll see.
I think Jaxson Hayes value got tanked really hard with the playin game and 1st round series. He was misused as a stretch 4 just standing around most of the time and his shot isn't quite there yet. He couldn't play with their current lineup and it just gets worse once Zion is back. He'll be going into his last year and should definitely be traded. Should be a great buy low target.
Turner/Wood/Hayes all expiring and should be much cheaper to get than Collins. Holmes not expiring but should also be cheap to get. Powell and Maxi are both expiring, one of em will probably be shipped in a deal to open up room in the rotation.

Has either of those guys (CJ or John) had a series like JB just did? Maybe they have and I just don’t recall it. But man, I am having a hard time thinking either of them are in the same spectrum as Jalen.
6 consecutive 20+ point playoff games. Averaged 29/5/5 for the series, shooting 48/35/88 while carrying the team to 2 wins in 3 tries as the best player on the court.
CJ just averaged 23 points on 39% shooting.
John just 24 minutes and 9 points.

I have a hard time seeing how Mavs could get him. Atlanta might explore his trade market, but probably only for a clear cut upgrade. They are in win now mode. So something Mavs don't have to offer. Collins is on the other hand still very young for any rebuilding team to have him as a cornerstone of their rebuild - I don't see realistically for Mavs to get in as a third team.

I honestly don't know enough about JC. But if you gave me the option between CJ and JB straight up, the decision for me would be easy.
