Game 51: Dallas Mavericks (26-24) vs. Philadelphia 76ers (19-29)
#61
Missed the last game, and just could not watch it so I had to watch this one.

Man this was a winnable game the pressure trying to win after losing Luka has to be massive for the MBT and these guys know the coach and manager are needing a win to justify that stupid Luka trade.

Wonder what PJ's personal reason was? With him and AD out there we win easily.

I am upset Hardy was held out this game he is a decent enough shooter and might have helped. I would give him Dins mins if he could play defense and was a little bigger. The Christie kidd looked good and showed we got a decent add on to AD that has to be worth more than a pick.

Cannot wait to see Lively and AD both in there and I hope Gafford is not injured and missing any games now.

While the bigs are going to help on D in the paint the problem with our defense on the guards is still problematic and they need to learn how to keep guys from loitering under the basket which they let happen way too much this game.

NAJI was probably fouled on that one play towards the end as he went up for a shot and was knocked to the ground.

Kidd is going to have a lot of problems experimenting to find rotations that work.

Fun facts:

Grimes was 7th in scoring for us and Caleb Martin was 7th in scoring for Philly.

Grimes at 6'4 is an inch shorter but shoots the 3 slightly better and gets more assists. Martin is 5 years older than Grimes at 29 vs 25.

Standings Philly is 11th in the East now as is Dallas in the west

After looking at what we now have to use out there, I would say PG is not that strong and we may need to draft a PG to groom for that job. https://www.tankathon.com/players/nolan-traore the tankathon agrees.

Another option and international as well but he has more size at 6'6 220

Irving Exum Din (Williams)
Klay Max Hardy Martin
PJ Naji (Kessler)
AD Omax PJ
Gafford Lively Powell (Kylor)

Giving Philly back a 2nd round pick for Caleb Martin an older less capable 2 over Grimes is dumb that trade should have earned us a pick instead of our having to give one up but I understand we needed to trade him beause of his FA status and so we risk getting nothing if a deal is not done and they know that.

Now we have one draft pick in this draft when at one time we had 2 in the second plus our first.

That last pick now has a lot riding on it for Nico.

Are the trades over or do we still need to find a win now guy.

I think now you wait to see who is bought out and hope someone decent is there to snag. If they can make something else work I doubt it is anything special because they are too desperate to make something happen now that they have put all this pressure on themselves by trading Luka.

OMG I just figured it out J Kidd must be planning to come out of retirement and he had to get rid of Luka to make us desperate enough to let him play PG. LOL

A future teller. The Mavs could fire Nico in the offseason. Recoup assets with AD. They could win the lottery this year and get Flagg. There’s a million different what ifs. Why concern yourself with “what if” in 2028-2030 right now.

The biggest bright spot is the Mavs had a great whistle tonight. I was amazed. Kyrie in particular seemed to get more favorable calls than usual. Maybe the refs will finally lighten up on this team out of pity or just so not to embarrass the league so much. I think the NBA really needs Dallas to stay above water to avoid all the conspiracy talk.

Lots could happen, I agree. I’m really pulling for a lottery win this year. That solves the problem. They’ll have a player to build around. Most likely, they’re just going to get old fast, at least their core. I remember Herb Williams and Adrian Dantley and the destruction of the original team because they traded young for old. The Mavs gave up control of those picks thinking they’d have Luka. Now they don’t and those moves make no sense anymore.

Christie has something. It will take some time though. I just can't get excited about it because what it took to get him. May be a solid bench piece in time.

Exum is a perfectly good backup for 15-18 minutes. I like a lot of things he does. He just can't stay healthy; therefore you can't count on him. I am so ready to move on from Dinwiddie. He is perfectly fine as a player, but not good enough to make up for the bad things he constantly does. Especially if he is in a bigger role. I prefer Exum, but Exum can't stay healthy and this team really needs shot creation that Din is better at.

Kelly will be a short term Mav. He was really bad in his first half stint. Really not fair to expect much from a guy who joined the team a week ago, but that is the reality we live in. When everyone is healthy, his spot should not be kept.

Marshall is a frustrating plyaer for me. I want to give him time because he has been out so much, but just not sure if that herky, jerky style is the best fit now. I am also not a huge fan of his on ball defense. I was expecting more.

This may be dangerzone for Omax. He just should be further along. He is too much of a spazz out there and his plus minus is typically not great. He has glimpses, but leaves you wanting much more. On the other hand, Edwards is showing things. The issue is he has to prove he can be produtive on offense/open three point shooter. If he is a zero on offense, it doesn't matter what else he is good at. He won't stick.

Gafford getting hurt really sucked. Would have probably won if he stayed in the game. BTW, Embid had huge stats but man did they feel empty. Boring player to watch too.

Watching Yabu was sort of cathartic. Just got me ready seeing a fat guy exact revenge and dominate you.

I thought the refs welcomed Embiid back with allowing a lot of bully ball, push offs and initiating contact.

Losing Gaff late in the game really hurt in the closing minutes. Didn't do much to stop Embiid, but seemed to affect the others.

Damn, Maxey is FAST! I can see why they love him in Philly.

I kind of like this Christie kid. Played with a ton of energy and confidence. Didn't seem afraid to take the shot, and usually made it. Of course, this is only one game.

I don't know if it was just the patchwork lineup, but there seemed to be better/more ball movement. I don't wonder if this is part of moving off LD. Cut back on a super-high usage player and share the touches around the squad more.

Going to miss watching Luka's play, but he's been away so long the post-trade lineups weren't as jarring as I thought they would be.

Watching Embiid now reminds me of what the Mavs say Luka has become. Such slander.
