James Harden plans to sign a two-year, $70 million contract to return to the Los Angeles Clippers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Harden’s agents – Mike Silverman, Troy Payne and Brandon Grier of Equity Sports – have been working with Clippers officials to finalize new deal.

The inclusion of the player option means James Harden either has an implicit no trade clause, or he's agreeing to waive it.

If traded this year, he loses his Bird rights if he opts out and becomes a free agent next summer, but his new team would still have enough to re-sign him.

This deal doesn't prevent a PG return to LAC.

But if he leaves, their consolation prize is getting under the tax line. They still have room to spend big MLE and minimums to fill a 14-man roster, and avoid tax. But not by a lot.
