It really is his back and nothing else. Now, Porzingis did probably just rest in a second night of a back to back, which I am - given the circumstances and the Mavs being in 8th place now - not a big fan of.

But good to know that the players may get vaccinated before the playoffs.

Did you read the injury report? Why would you put "illness" as reason, if his lower back is the issue. Unless the Mavs are comedians and wanted to scare Mavs fans during a global pandemic Wink

Townsend tweeted out "Not Covid" afterwards.

Since we are headed this way.

It's important to note that there are still 28 games to go til the end of the season. That is plenty of games to make up a 3.5 game difference. Lots of things to happen in this season to believe we're set where we are.

Also plenty of time to drop 3.5 games to 12th. Big Grin

Yep, and if they sit KP and Luka for the rest of the season, I'd be right there with you. As it is, I can't get there.

Apparently none of them quite desperate enough.

Sorry but I don't read the injury report every time. Smile I just assumed it was his back because it was his back the day before and the hobbling in the Minnesota game was real as well as his lack of effort and explosiveness. (due to his hurt back I assume)

Center, season ending injury, about to get paid...sounds like something the Mavs would do.

Robinson is a physical stud and would be perfect here, but I don't think it will happen.

Holmes might get free from SAC, but I can't see Robinson getting out of NY.

I agree that Robinson is unlikely. He wouldn’t be my first choice but I would sure like him if other things didn’t work out. I also like Holmes but he would also be a little ways down the board for me.

Holmes is a guy like Wood last year that guys here will want but Holmes will get a starting job somewhere and he can't get that here.

Mavs are in a tough spot to compete in the West next year as well. Jazz and Suns are much better than expected. We thought they were going to be on a lower tier but they are at least very good regular season teams, if not more. Lakers are the Lakers. Clippers will likely be in contention again but have the most risk of completely falling apart. Nuggets are contenders, Blazers are contenders if they can ever get through a season healthy. Warriors will be back as contenders.

So you have basically 7 teams to me in the 1st and 2nd tiers in the West before you get to the group the Mavs are in. The Mavs are trying to hold off Grizzlies, Spurs (who always overachieve) and other young teams, from leap-frogging them. A healthy Mavs team is probably a playoff team but there is low margin for error and now you have to deal with this whole play-in tournament.

The play-in tournament is probably the best anti-tanking measure the NBA has ever come up with. Now you have teams that would be tanking actually competing for those last spots. I actually am a fan it for that reason and because it gives the bottom seeds some momentum headed into the first round where otherwise they look like dead-man walking most years.

It would suck to lose the play-in tournament because it feels like you didn't really "make the playoffs." Mavs are definitely sort of the best of the low rung teams at the moment. I am not sure how they get into the 2nd tier of very-good-maybe-not-true-contenders. Suns did it by adding super-old CP3 to everyone's amazement. Mavs have at least established some kind of floor where the play-in tournament is sort of their floor for the forseeable future. You only need to be the 10th seed to make that tournament.

Could Robinson and KP coexist on defense? Feels like Robinson is athletic enough to hang on the perimeter so KP can stay by the rim and be less exposed out there but wouldn’t that kind of take away from Robinson has a defender in those lineups?

Kind of interesting, financially you would think it would be easier to sign Robinson as an RFA than I guy like Collins because Collins is expected to get close to if not the full max whereas that would be considered an overpay for Robinson so the Knicks would have a choice to make. I would expect them to opt in though and push him to unrestricted FA next offseason.
