RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - DanSchwartzgan - 01-23-2021 (01-23-2021, 03:32 PM)omahen Wrote: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2927929-should-the-chicago-bulls-trade-zach-lavine-or-lauri-markkanen Interesting article. Do you use big cap room in 21 to improve and risk LaVine leaving in his UFA year. Or, do you forego cap space in 21 to use it on LaVine's extension? Tough call. My interest would be to try to help them out by sending fully expiring Johnson for partially guaranteed Young and getting back Carter Jr. for WCS in the process. It would probably take more than that (Green?). The idea would be to save them some money so they can either keep some of their other expiring guys and use the MLE or let the the expiring guys go and still have significant cap room even after renegotiating with LaVine. Bulls have almost 40 mil of cap space next season. 20 if they keep Markkanen cap hold. I don't think they will resign OPJ. They don't really need any help with cap space. But, if they make some moves they can add to that and take advantage of OPJ's expiring deal AND extend LaVine...which was my point. The cost is the talent spread between WCJr. and Green. RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 01-25-2021 31 points for Quickley last night I think some of you guys like Kamm are better at evaluating draft prospects than the Mavs. Mavs seem to "give up" once they can't get their main target. Reminds me of the Shane Larkin draft. Once Donnie couldn't get Giannis, he just threw a dart at the board. It's just really difficult. Loads of people here thought Killian Hayes was going to be the best player in the draft, which he clearly isn't, even if he ends up not being a bust (super possible). The only pick they seem to have missed on (emphasis on "seem to") is Terry. Green has been decent for a rookie, imo, and I thought Bey looked good the other night. Feels like they looked at the combine numbers and picked the most athletic wing that was left. Don´t get me wrong. He is doing better than I expected and could develop into a solid 3&D guy but he has a long way to go on offense. It's just really difficult. Agree. We also need to take into account different environment, playing time opportunity, age, development stage. Quickley received very steady minutes since day 1. There is no win now pressure in New York. Terry is in a totally different situation, barely getting a minute or two here and there. I think it is very unfair judging by this. It is fun looking at draft big boards and be smart after a month Our guys would draft: Aguiar: #18: Hampton, #31: Maledon (assuming Green would be picked by another team) Scott: #18: S.Bey, #31: Terry Kamm: #18: Hampton, #31: T.Bey RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - SleepingHero - 01-25-2021 (01-24-2021, 02:21 PM)Mavs2019 Wrote: COVID sniffing dogs. I guess Riley has been sniffing a bit too much of the COKE. Just wanna say that these dogs have shown to be extraordinarily accurate in detecting active covid infections, even if the person is asymptomatic (which is the real treasure of this). If I remember right its around 90-93% accurate in detecting positive cases and 100% accurate in detecting negative cases. Which is insane given that there is no variability in samples and no wait time for results to be sent to a lab and processed (anywhere from 1-3 days), and even then those are only so accurate (Rapid test/PCR 50-90%/99%). Dogs are amazing. Reminds me of the Shane Larkin draft. Once Donnie couldn't get Giannis, he just threw a dart at the board. I feel the same about this draft. Less so about the Green pick and much more about the Terry pick I might add. I think the Mavs really wanted Bane at 31 and he was snatched away at the last moment and they panicked. However in the 1st round, I think their top 3 choices were Haliburton, Haliburton, and Haliburton, and when they couldn't get him they decided to go with the hardest worker and someone who really showed they wanted to be a Maverick, despite the actual talent level. Josh Green was that to a T. It remains to be seen if that's the right philosophy for drafting. I assume that's the same philosophy they applied to the 2018 draft. Except there, the Hawks actually did make the trade the Mavs wanted and the Mavs got their guy. And no one came and grabbed Brunson at the last second. That draft mindset we could say worked out extremely well there. And hypothetically let's say the Suns played ball and did make the trade the Mavs supposedly tried to do at #10. Then the Mavs would've walked away from draft night with Haliburton at 10 and someone at 36 (I assume it was 18+31+future first for 10 and the Curry trade still happens). Haliburton/T.Bey would've been seen as another amazing draft by the MBT. I think as the pick was approaching, they decided to pick either Bane or Terry, whichever was there. There has to be a reason Memphis traded into the pick right before them, so it's not crazy to imagine they had reason to believe the Mavs would draft him. In hindsight, maybe they should've been singularly focused on Bane there and taken measures to prevent Memphis from getting him. |
