What a way to start a young man's career July 9th, 2019 at 8:52am CST by Luke Adams For the first time in several years, a first-round pick has accepted below the standard maximum of 120% of his rookie scale amount, tweets Jeff Siegel of Early Bird Rights. According to Siegel, No. 30 overall pick Kevin Porter Jr. will only earn 80% of his rookie scale amount during his first season and will continue to get less than 120% of the rookie scale amount in years two through four. The rookie scale amount this year for the No. 30 pick is $1,613,700, so Porter’s expected salary for his rookie season would have been $1,936,440. Instead, he’ll get just $1,290,960, according to Siegel. RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - Kammrath - 01-23-2021 Seth Curry's shooting is just stupid good this year so far (on 47 3PA): 3P%: 59.6% TS%: 79.1% All Time single season records: 3P%: 53.6% (Kyle Korver on 110 3PA in 2009-10) TS%: 69.9% (Kyle Korver on 449 3PA in 2014-15, best non-bigman season ever) Will be interested to see how this holds up over time. I still like Richardson's potential here, but he hasn't been great, so far. Hopefully he'll get into a rhythm when he comes back. Bey's potential is a big deal, too, but it's getting tougher and tougher to remind myself about that. I've been questioning since it happened even if I don't hate the trade. JRich has exceeding my expectations but Seth Curry's shooting has been missed and he was a guy who wanted to be hear and had years left on an inexpensive contract. I also wonder what Curry could have done with an expanded role. JRich has exceeding my expectations but Seth Curry's shooting has been missed and he was a guy who wanted to be hear and had years left on an inexpensive contract. I also wonder what Curry could have done with an expanded role. Well, it's clearly more questionable than many of us thought initially. I can't remember where I heard this (sorry), but there were definitely some whispers after the trade that Curry wasn't super tight with the rest of the team in the locker room. The suggestion wasn't that he was a bad presence on the team at all, just that he wasn't as super into the team chemistry as the rest of last year's team clearly was. I don't think this is/was a huge problem - the only reason I bring it up is to point out that the whole "wanted to be here" thing MIGHT have changed a bit over the course of last season. I agree about the contract - was the best thing about him, imo. Ultimately, I guess that's what made him so easy to move fore value. I think it's interesting that Richardson has exceeded your expectations. I think he had a superb preseason, but once the games started to matter I felt really underwhelmed by his contributions. I fully realize that he's a new player trying to feel his way out on a new team, and that Covid can't have helped, but my early impressions of him are that he's kind of a black hole on offense. They probably want him to do some creating, but idk, I just felt like he was choosing the wrong times to stop the ball a little too often. I actually saw an NBA math graphic that suggested he was the team's worst defender so far, and while I'm sure that's not literally true, it does make me wonder how the Mavs are currently feeling about their purchase. Way too early in my mind still. JRich in the preseason looked like the perfect fit...but then when the funky chemistry hit the WHOLE team early on I felt like he was a big casualty in all that. I really hope he gets back soon because the Mavs need to evaluate his long term fit next to Luka quickly or be ready to cash in on trading him. The most unfortunate thing with this crazy start to the season is that I have no better sense of who should be a long term fit with KP and Luka and who should be upgraded. RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - KillerLeft - 01-23-2021 (01-23-2021, 04:16 PM)Kammrath Wrote: Way too early in my mind still. Couldn't agree more. To your last point, if they want to make big trades, THIS deadline is the time. Obviously, they wouldn't think twice about including Johnson in a good deal, but the decisions on THJ and Richardson are a bit trickier, imo. It doesn't seem like they'll have a crazy amount of time to evaluate Richardson's fit here at this rate. It's a bit concerning. Hadn't heard those rumors so that's interesting, But he did sign a medium length deal with us and had already been with the team once. He might not be as gung-ho as THJ, but that might just come down to his personality. I was pretty lukewarm to JRich when people suggested the trade last year and when the trade happened. I like what I've seen from his defense and he has a decent handle to get that little pull-up jumper from the FT line or he's nifty enough to get quality looks driving to the rim. He's expiring though and I have no idea what to pay him or what he'll expect. I'd probably take a do-over on that trade right now or at least try to extract a better pick from the 76ers. /spilt milk RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - KillerLeft - 01-23-2021 (01-23-2021, 04:23 PM)cow Wrote: I'd probably take a do-over on that trade right now or at least try to extract a better pick from the 76ers. /spilt milk You mean, like a first from a future draft?
