RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - omahen - 01-22-2021 (01-22-2021, 04:28 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: Just my opinion, but I think he needed to team up with someone. Totally agree with the first part. Second part - he doesn't need to team up with someone. Milwaukee (and him) have to accept what he is and build around him accordingly. Perhaps Middleton and Holliday can be that go to guys in key possessions. That's why Giannis to Dallas was never going to work. MVP will come thinking he is 1st fiddle. or 1A/1B at worst. There is a reason you see super stars playing a lot with each other past years. Giannis to Dallas was very real tbh, there is a reason his agent was calculating taxes here and in Florida and not Canada RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - pompelmo - 01-22-2021 (01-22-2021, 05:24 AM)khaled1987 Wrote: MVP will come thinking he is 1st fiddle. or 1A/1B at worst. There is always only one finals MVP. 1B is second fiddle. That's why Kobe wanted Shaq gone. Stephen Curry accepted to take a back seat, so did Anthony Davis. They have built the team like he is LeBron. He’s not a point forward now, and I don’t know that he ever will be. He’s just not a dude you can throw the ball to and ask to win the game for you during the last three minutes of close battles in the playoffs. Wouldn't just a change in playstyle would solve their problems theoretically? If Giannis is basically Shaq (which I agree with the comparison), then Middleton would be Kobe, albeit not nearly as talented. Though they do have Jrue to more than make up for that differential. I think the Bucks have all the pieces to win a championship, but they're basically using a Ferrari engine to power a boat. Sure it'll work but it's better used elsewhere. I think if the Bucks just focus their halfcourt offense into Giannis playing inside out, rather than forcing drives and pummeling into people, the Bucks would be a LOT scarier. And again, he actually considered us and Miami before signing contract. Of course he did. And then decided to stay where he is. So you don't get any "points" for the argument that he would accept to be less than number 1 RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - dirkfansince1998 - 01-22-2021 Giannis trying to create half court offense in the last few games: https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/1351357519961104384 https://twitter.com/LakeShowYo/status/1352448539775823872 RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - KillerLeft - 01-22-2021 (01-22-2021, 06:31 AM)SleepingHero Wrote: Wouldn't just a change in playstyle would solve their problems theoretically? Maybe, but: A) This is how Milwaukee thinks it's best to play him and to build around him - like he's point forward Lebron James. In Milwaukee, he's an above the break player (almost exclusively). He's working on his 3-point shot. This is a dead end, imo. They have already wasted so much time investing in him down this specific pathway. I don't see them changing course soon, and because he willingly signed up for much more of this, I wonder if that's not the way HE thinks he should be playing, too. B) Talk about a team in financial trouble, yeesh. They have no way to get the player(s) needed to make the changes needed, as far as I can tell. Middleton and Holiday are good players, so no insult to them. They have other good role players, too. I think if Giannis was the TYPE of player the team thinks he is, the roster would be good enough to get the job done. But, again, it's all based on Giannis being Lebron, which he's not. To win a title, the team needs a Harden, Lillard, Irving, Doncic, etc. They need a PREMIUM ball-handler/scoring threat. The Holiday trade was their last chance to recognize their issue and make things right, and while he's a great player, he's not one of THOSE guys. I don't know that they have ANY chance to get one of those guys now, unless they start to seriously rearrange the roster. Even if they did that, it would take lots of luck. Their payroll is bloated, their Spring has expired. I think they are a dead team walking without even knowing it, personally. The fact that they blew their wad on Holiday when Harden was potentially on the market seems foolish to me. But that's just an aside. The REAL problem is that while Giannis is made to be the screener for Harden or Doncic, either HE or THEY don't see it. Don't get me wrong, his ball-handling and creativity is important. I just think it should be confined to fast breaks, short-roll situations, etc. Even the narrative on Inside the NBA last night was "Giannis needs to get better" which is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. They're judging him as he's being presented by the dumb ass Milwaukee Bucks and dumb ass Mike Budenholzer. They touched a little bit on the strategy portion of what has gone wrong with him, but not enough, imo. I've already rambled too much about this, and all before I've finished my morning coffee, so it's probably incoherent gibberish. I guess what I'm saying is that yes, a play style change could fix this, but it might be too late for that by the time he/they realize that's what's needed. If they ever do. I guess what I'm saying is that yes, a play style change could fix this, but it might be too late for that by the time he/they realize that's what's needed. If they ever do. Not incoherent at all. I guess the crux of the issue is whether or not the Bucks and or Giannis recognize he isn't the player archetype they think he is, and even if they did, can they even rearrange the roster in a way to suit those strengths? Where you and I differ though is how feasible I think the Bucks can pivot should they even get past that first hurdle. In fact I don't think they need to do much, if at all. Lopez is the ideal stretch 5 that can defend large people and doesn't take away space down low for a theoretical Giannis inside game. Holiday is a savvy PG that can also defend very well. Middleton is a supremely efficient scorer, though at times I wonder how much better the Bucks would be if he would just shoot more and forego efficiency. In that sense the team mirrors A LOT of the 2000s Shaq Lakers. Except in this case Shaq is more mobile to fit today's game. I really do think the Bucks have what it takes to win it all. Very easily in fact. But I think their biggest hurdle isn't the Lakers, but as you pointed out poignantly, it's themselves. You also have the problem of stars being officiated differently from the majority of players in the league, NBRA and certain officials holding grudges against certain players/teams/owners (cough Cuban/Mavs cough) and other horseshit like letting smaller players beat the shit out of big players without assessing fouls. I'd say change the foul-out rule but there is no chance that happens as the NBA wants the game to speed up, not slow down for viewership purposes. Watching NBA games gets harder and harder for me The refs are a major problem but so is the flopping which makes the good refs look bad RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA not planning to pause season for COVID - cow - 01-22-2021 (01-22-2021, 06:23 PM)MFFL Wrote: Watching NBA games gets harder and harder for me Flopping could be solved by brining back no-calls but that goes back into the whole star treatment issue I brought up. I also really had how charges/blocking fouls are called these days. Having defenders slide into position at the last possible moment seems to go against the spirit of the rule and is dangerous for the offensive player if they are in flight.
