The Mavs had the most incredible - and probably clueless - corporate sponsorship ever, in the 90's.

For a team that was so inept and couldn't shoot straight, it was quite interesting (and suitable, of course) to hear game after game that they had an official "brick." One of their primary sponsors for broadcasts was "Acme, the official brick of the Dallas Mavericks" as championed by Troy Aikman, over and over.

You can't make it up.

And they were broadcast on a small local TV station who thought it was smart to do an immediate replay of the game during a 13 or similar win season...

Ross Perot Jr was as bad of an owner as Dolan and I am glad that Cuban was tired of seeing the Mavs get blown out every night and gave us better times by buying the team...

When some fans are jumping off of bridges every other week or demanding immediate changes I remember the 90s and feel blessed to go from Dirk to Luka...

Just goes to show that the NBA should be as motivated as they can be to find owners that actually care about the sport.

Clippers went from quite possibly the worst franchise of all time (Minny coming for that title), to a near decade run of championship aspirations.

I think if anything should be changed, it should be do-nothing owners that don't really see an NBA team as anything more than an investment. There should be a performance clause that should light a fire under owners asses. Make a good team or lose it.

This is a good idea. I wish they had something like this in place.

I spent 8+ years wishing that Perot Jr would fall in a sinkhole and we would get a new ownership in place...

"Privately, Harden knows the team as currently constructed can't defeat the Lakers in a seven-game series, a reality that only further cements desires for a move elsewhere," Kelly Iko of The Athletic reported.
Iko also noted Harden's "desires for a trade were reinforced" after Sunday's 120-102 loss to the Lakers.
"I love this city," Harden said after the Rockets fell to 3-6 on Tuesday. "I literally have done everything that I can. The situation is crazy; it's something that I don't think can be fixed."

@ryenarussillo
If you haven’t watched the Rockets yet I’d urge you to make sure you don’t miss out on the most miserable team I’ve seen in years. Checked out Harden, peak Cousins. Wood 3s! Role players getting mad at starters. Catch it before it’s over.

This is true, but I also think the demand for a franchise varies wildly depending on the market and brand.  Ballmer paid $2 billion for an LA market team, but  Minnesota has been on the market forever and they reportedly can't get a $1.3 offer. Michael Jordon got Charlotte on a sweetheart deal because they couldn't give that franchise away. But there are definitely owners who way under perform their franchise potential ... like the Knicks ... but is that from lack of caring or incompetence? If anything Dolan might care too much ... he won't let the Knicks just get bad and rebuild through the draft.

Anybody recall Ted Stepien from the early 80s Cavaliers? Talk about running a team into the ground. So bad he even got a rule named after him. Has to be a top 5 candidate for all time worst sports management.

Dwight Powell/Johnson for Harden straight up.  We move Champ to an end of the bench role, make Harden our official mascot and watch all the lucrative fast food sponsorships roll in.

I can't find the quote now but Rick Pitino did everything he could to sabotage and/or take a shot at Dallas in the early-mid '90s (and beyond).

First off while he was still at Kentucky, he was the sounding board for Jamal a lot during that time -
It came to a head when Dallas traded Kidd to Phoenix. The trigger that wasn't mentioned: going into December of 96 there were rumors of Phoenix and Dallas discussing a trade and the piece discussed seemed to be Jim Jackson. However, Kidd was not happy as the video mentioned, but then Kidd got a DUI and that was the final straw for Zach the Hack - GM Frank Zachanelli. The trade to Phoenix was then made involving Jason Kidd. the most distressing piece to this trade was that Dallas did not get any of the better Phoenix PG's: Kevin Johnson (not available) or Santa Clara rookie Steve Nash. An oversight that would eventually cost Dallas a #18 pick and a future #1 that became Shawn Marion. Instead they got Sam Cassell
Jamal wanted Jackson traded and basically gave up on Dallas when it was Jason that got traded. Memory is Rick quoted himself as telling Jamal at that point, "do whatever you need to do get out of there, not every NBA team is Dallas." Nellie never got a chance with Jamal and rather quickly got his wish with a trade to Miami for Martin Muursepp. Jackson, the source of a great deal of negativity in the locker room for years, then got shipped to NJ. He was never right after the ankle injury and Dallas would have been better suited dealing him first, but Zach the Hack was completely inept. There was an Aguirre return to the role of advisor and Keith Grant eventually left the organization over his feeling undermined.

Very interesting. A couple of questions I have.

1. Will Houston be better with Harden gone? I think yes
2. Will New Jersey/Philly be worse with Harden in? I think New Jersey (I imagine LeVert and Allen gone) will be worse. Philly on paper should be better, but Harden is acting like a prime Schmuck, so who knows.

I don't think Green can be included. Or am I wrong?
