RE: AROUND the NBA: Dec 22 Tip-Off, 72 gms | Harden no-showed HOU practice - KillerLeft - 12-12-2020 @"DanSchwartzman" Are you really anti-LaVine for the Mavs? I think he's one of the best possible semi-realistic options. RE: AROUND the NBA: Dec 22 Tip-Off, 72 gms | Harden no-showed HOU practice - omahen - 12-12-2020 (12-12-2020, 11:52 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: Agreed. I still don't know if last season was all on Boylan or if this is just a poorly put together roster. I thought Patrick Williams looked like a keeper last night. Very impressed. I like Satoransky and think he's a really good third guard option (unfortunately they kind of have that already in White). A team that counts on LaVine to be anything more than its third best player is probably doomed. And what about Markkanen? Will Chicago match a big dollar offer if one comes along? Patrick Williams was good but he will be very inefficient with those mid range jumpers he seems to like a lot. Boylen had to go, because players simply lost trust in him. But it is also a fact this roster somehow doesn't fit together. But I think they would look extremely better if they get a good pass first PG that plays some defense. Like Phoenix once they got Rubio - a lot of things started to look much better. I agree White and Sato are somewhat redundant. Markkanen? Will he even get a big offer if he has another meh season? His shot is ok but not great. As is everything else, actually. He might end in the Saric category. (12-12-2020, 11:52 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: While I agree they will be active, it is really hard to predict what direction the will go. I think Karnisovas showed he is a very patient guy. I don't expect drastic win now moves and I also don't expect total rebuild. Assuming yesterday game is a realistic image of what Chicago will be this season, they will fight for play in in best case scenario. Based on this: - if opportunity comes they have the assets for a star and they will go for it, if the price is reasonable. They will have no problem including Markkanen or WCJ in the deal - if nothing comes along, I guess they will shop Markkanen. Someone like White from San Antonio would be a decent target and a solid move for both teams. San Antonio has too many guards and they could see a benefit in Markkanen. - moving Porter will be diffcult without taking bad money back, unless a star trade appears. If it doesn't, my guess is he will be a free agent. - I think they will be shopping Sato and Young for whatever value they can get. (12-12-2020, 11:52 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: If you are Dallas, what do you really want from that roster? - I would target LaVine, if I I decide to move on from THJ. He is a huge offensive upgrade and equally good defender. Great third guy option on our team. THJ, Kleber, DFS, Brunson, Green, 2027 pick, second rounders would be on the table and perhaps a combination of those assets would be enough to convince Chicago. - OPJ - unless Mavs decide to move on from Powell, there is no option, his contract is too big. Johnson+Powell+2027 pick. Perhaps it would be enough for a half year rental, if Powell looks halfway useful. Other assets are too valuable for half year rental. Of course we only do this deal if we plan to resign OPJ next summer - I am not interested in Sato or Young, unless they would be a necessity if Kleber or Brunson are moved in other deals. RE: AROUND the NBA: Dec 22 Tip-Off, 72 gms | Harden no-showed HOU practice - DanSchwartzgan - 12-12-2020 (12-12-2020, 11:53 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: @"DanSchwartzman" Are you really anti-LaVine for the Mavs? I really don't. I'm perfectly willing to admit that some of my opinions may be outdated. Once I sour on someone's character I don't tend to recognize the possibility they might mature over time. He would be the third option here, so that meets the criteria I set out in my post above. HOWEVER: My opinion is he's not a winner. He's almost never a net positive and has been REALLY bad at RPM especially given what he is paid. Defense seems to be optional. Chicago was 8 points worse defensively when he was on the court last year. I don't think we need another 30% Usage guy here. He's relatively efficient at that high usage (which makes it even more puzzling why he doesn't contribute to winning). But, the main thing is I think LaVine is kind of a selfish ______ (fill in whatever unflattering word you'd like). That last part is what I mean when I talk about my opinion potentially being outdated and not giving the benefit of the doubt for potential maturity. I got to see a lot of Julius Randle when he played AAU as a teen. I never want that guy on the Mav's. I had one degree of separation with two people who knew Buddy Heild and his family at Oklahoma. Without getting into why, I'm anti-Hield also. The Randle opinion dates back to High School, but so far he's done basically nothing with his immense physical gifts. The Hield opinion dates back to college. Same thing. My negative opinion of LaVine dates back to when he was 19, but I've yet to see anything to change my mind. The league values scoring, so I doubt we have enough to trade for him and frankly it is a relief to me. (12-12-2020, 12:18 PM)omahen Wrote: - if nothing comes along, I guess they will shop Markkanen. HOWEVER: Well, if the issues are born of character, as you suggest, then I doubt the Mavs will ever truly reach an interest level where we'll even find out if they have enough to trade for him. Agreed that there are some people you don't want around regardless of their talent/skill level. Carmelo Anthony has the same selfish problems that move the needle in the wrong direction at every stop. If LaVine is like HIM, and THAT'S why he puts so many shots up, then sure - let's avoid him. I just think there's a decent chance he's doing what that team wants him to do, because they have no choice but to want him to do it. I absolutely agree that he is miscast in the face of the franchise role. I just wonder if he might learn how to fit into a different role on a GOOD team. I actually think he'd be the 2nd guy here, not the 3rd. To be fair, it's just as speculative that he COULD change as your feeling that he is what he is, so I can't disagree with your opinion with much gusto. What’s it going to hurt? The bigger issue that still doesn’t make sense is why there isn’t some more active expansion of rosters this season. Expanding the rosters to 18 + the 2 two-way contracts and having the team leave the two-ways at home for games there or for call-ups to replace COVID specific absences makes much more sense, IMO. What’s it going to hurt? Good question. I have never really thought about it, but if there’s an obvious reason for stipulating that two of the maximum number of rostered players must be inactive for each game...I can’t see it. RE: AROUND the NBA: Dec 22 Tip-Off, 72 gms | Harden no-showed HOU practice - ClutchDirk - 12-12-2020 According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, there is mutual interest between Harden and the Heat, and Miami does not consider second-year guard Tyler Herro to be untouchable in a potential trade for Harden. Jackson noted that Harden has named the Heat, Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers as teams he would accept a trade to. RE: AROUND the NBA: Dec 22 Tip-Off, 72 gms | Harden no-showed HOU practice - Kammrath - 12-12-2020 Poku.... 14 pts, 8 rbds Maledon.... 20 pts, 5 rbds Really think the Mavs are going to regret not picking Maledon.... I mean listen all you shit-ass lottery franchises. Sam Presti has drafted three MVPs in the span of like five years and a few other good players. So when the guy trades up to 17 and makes the player, who most experts said had one of the highest ceilings in this draft, a PROMISE. Maybe you should just say f*** it, let´s just take the guy. Poku would make KP expandable. Similar metrics and style, but you would be tempted to trade KP away knowing you have younger (healthier) version of himself. Theo Maledon might be the one we should of got instead of Tyrell. Time will tell. Absolutely. My opinion after taking the time to evaluate these guys pre-draft is that this will be one of the strongest drafts in years in regard to rotation players. TONS of these guys will have long NBA careers. Maybe no superstars, but time will tell.
