if that´s the case (and I completly agree). Why are we trying to add another max or near max big? Even with Maxi outgoing the Mavs would still have

KP 31m
Powell 11m
Collins at least 25m

Nearly 70m for three bigmen. If KP isn´t outgoing Collins makes no sense.

Not to mention that neither of them is a plus defender (I'm sure someone will reply with some defensive on/off or something, but imo, this is obvious) or a rebounder.

I can handle paying that much for the full spectrum of what you want from your bigs, I guess, but while that pairing would help Luka quite a bit on offense, I feel the team is left with the same holes afterwards.

If the conversation is Collins OR Porzingis, it's more interesting, I think. Collins is a 4, which I think makes it easier to solve those other problems at the 5, whereas KP's "unicorn" qualities might be negatives, at this point. Finding the guy who fits next to him is a tall order, imo.

I think they are both a little difficult to pair up with.  KP can fit with just about anyone offensively, but if he does not get his mobility back, then he is going to be a big liability defensively no mater who you pair him with.

Collins is tough because playing him with a traditional 5 greatly reduces his offensive game.  He is most effective working in the paint.  That is why his numbers are down this year playing with Capella, and I think he does most of his damage playing small ball 5 with the second unit.  He really needs a stretch 5 that can guard the rim.

A KP/Collins actually makes a really good fit offensively, and if KP mobility comes back would not be that bad defensively either.  As mentioned above, that is a lot of money to spend on your big rotation, especially when you include Powell and possibly Maxi.

RE: AROUND the NBA: McCollum trade "probable" | Saric out with torn ACL - Chicagojk - 07-08-2021

some small Mavs mentions in this Zach Lowe Article on Crowder.   I admit, I wasn't crazy with giving Crowder a multi year deal last offseason.  I still think he is limited when his shots are not going in.  But he does provide toughness and gives his teams an edge.   Mavs are really lacking a wing/front court player who plays with an edge.

I can't read the full article, but it looks like the Mavs top level front office struck again:

The Mavs had interest in a reunion, though they made no firm offer, sources said. The Heat wanted him back, but on a shorter deal, sources said.

Might as well pack Dame's bags if they hire VDN.

Agree with the first part, as long as Porzingis is on board (I have a hunch he won't be), and I also agree with the second part (kind of), though I think there's some wishful thinking (not from you, specifically, but around here in general) about Collins' ability to move out to the perimeter defensively, and the "if" in your take is a really, really big one.

My dream offseason at one point was headlined by pairing Turner with Collins for this very reason, with the hope the Mavs could find a 3rd team (Charlotte) to take KP that would land Turner in Dallas.  I couldn't ever get to something that made sense because in any deal I think that third team would probably just prefer to land Turner themselves.

Now with Rick in Indy it may be that any conversation with Indy is DOA.

My favorite was always KP to Charlotte, Hayward to Indy and Turner to Dallas.  Opens up $14 million more in space for the Mavs to go get Collins and with some additional moves; Jrich opt out or opt in and trade, decline WCS, and/or dump Burke; Mavs could create enough additional space to make a run at Conley, Ball, DDR...whoever they deem the best fit.

Turner - Collins - DFS - Conley/Ball - Luka

I think having Carlisle in Indiana might make deals between the teams more likely, BUT, we know that he's a big admirer of Turner. So much so that I think Turner might have been part of the draw.

I'm not a proponent of Collins because I think he is more of a luxury than a necessity, but his defense on the perimeter playing next to Capella has been good (not sure how much that has to do with Capella).

I agree its a big "if".  Its the difference between KP potentially being close to worth his contract, vs him being an albatross that needs to be moved ASAP.  Probably the most important question going into next season.

So $67M for the 4 & 5 versus $50M for the 4 alone is a big difference IMO, especially when Gallo and JC are really stricly 4s.

Also ATL would have upwards of $77M tied up in the 4 & 5 without taking into account future money and upcoming paydays.

I definitely think JC makes LESS sense for DAL if KP isn't outgoing, but I think you can run it for one season just to see if it works (JC is a 4 and KP is a 5 in most people's minds). I am still IN on JC regardless of KP's status. I just really think JC has incredible potential that is untapped and is a really good fit with how Luka plays. I would hate to miss on one of the best 23 year olds in the league being available.

Just reading a Hawks message board to get the temperature on Collins.  Mostly positive vibes towards him but not many thinking he's a max player.

Gross dude.  I was talking about mental health.  The unabashed positive energy from children or pets are great for people who suffer from depression.
