RE: AROUND the NBA: Dec 22 Tip-Off, 72 gms | Harden no-showed HOU practice - KillerLeft - 12-09-2020

No disrespect intended to anyone here, but I just can't believe that after watching THIS off-season we still have folks who are convinced they can look down the list of free agents and restricted free agents for next summer and think they have a complete grasp over the situation.

There will be players (plural) available we can't predict at this time, both through trade and through free agency. Star temper tantrums, surprise opt-outs, teams who don't want to max RFA's, etc. Just like this year, we will speculate about who those people will be, and what their value might be. Just like this year, we will be wrong most of the time.

I don't know why we insist on trying to predict how everyone is going to fall in the roster upgrade portions of the season when the SEASON hasn't even started. Seems like self-torture to me.

What exactly was so surprising this offseason to you? Basically everything was reasonably predictable. Even Houston meltdown.

Come on, my guy.

You think Houston being forced to trade Harden NOW was "reasonably predictable" a year ago?

You think SAC letting Bogdanovic go in RFA (because they either couldn't or wouldn't move Hield) was predictable? Even after we KNEW about the reasoning behind this, there were STILL people here convinced they'd match the ATL offer.

This time last year, you thought Christian Wood would hit free agency in a position where half the people who follow the NBA thought he was about to be a star?

You thought Jerami Grant would choose to leave Denver, even though Denver offered him the same money? (I know for a fact you didn't)

There are more examples. Those are some BIG ones, though.

I think this off-season, like most in the NBA, was BONKERS.

Yes. Trading for Westbrook and later Capella for Covington made it clear they are desperate. It was quickly clear they don't have any more chance to win it all.

Off course. Bogdanovic is overpaid imho. They basically had to do a decision which one to keep. Smart move would be to trade one last TDL, but since they didn't... Alternative (which I might still chose) would be to still match his offer and trade him later. But to support their move - what if his contract becomes untradeable (negative value)?

Sure, that was a surprise. So was Graham. Every year there are a couple of surprises in a positive and negative way.

This one is a real headscratcher. If, of course, media news are true. Why leaving a true contender for bottom of the pack Detroit???

I'm thinking Harden is not a believer in Wall which is why he's amped up the departure effort in the last few weeks. He may be correct and Wall may be damaged to the point of not being the same player, but it's putting the shaft to a team that basically gave him keys to the city for 8 years. HOU has to get something significant back or they are in the lottery race for a few years.

Dirk definitely spoiled us.

RE: AROUND the NBA: Dec 22 Tip-Off, 72 gms | Harden no-showed HOU practice - KillerLeft - 12-09-2020

My tinfoil hat theory on the current Harden thing:

I think that he has resigned himself to the idea that he will at least start the season in Houston, and probably last all the way to the trade deadline at the very least. I do not think this reporting to camp late business has anything to do with him trying to force a trade immediately.

Maybe he’s simply a bad teammate who thinks A) the season is starting too early and B) the health protocols the NBA sent out for the upcoming season are excessive. Maybe he is simply protesting THOSE things by getting these social gatherings in before he reports, and possibly avoiding some hefty fines by doing so.

In short, I just don’t think he would care about training camp right now even if he still loved playing for Houston.

Or, they trade him tomorrow. Just a thought I had.

Short drive so I didn't hear much, but he commented that the ability to free up cap space next summer with the expirings and TOs was not intentional. They didn't really have a plan powder and that they would have moved on Jones and Richardson regardless, it just turned out to give them (potentially) a lot of cap flexibility next summer.

So you can believe as much or as little of that as you want.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

I can believe that they would have traded Curry for JRich even if Richardson wasn't expiring. He's a good player on a very reasonable contract (like Curry), and I can also see how they would be open to roster flexibility options beyond pure cap space. But I'm definitely not buying it beyond that, although I can appreciate that Cuban has enough sense to treat his players with respect.

What a waste of resources to use six tests on this d***, when it could go to some system critical regular workers that put their bodies on the line on a daily basis.

The NBA should just hire one of the 50M unemployed people, make them watch Harden´s house for two weeks on his dime. Then he gets one test and done.  Shy

Harden should just say he is boycotting for social justice reasons. They will throw him a parade!

Houston Rockets superstar James Harden has reportedly added the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks to his list of preferred trade destinations ahead of the 2020-21 NBA season.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Thursday the Rockets expect Harden to "remain professional" in the face of ongoing trade rumors despite being "non-communicative with the front office at times" during the offseason.
