Well.. It's not affecting Devin Booker. If the Nets got anything from him, they probably win the series. GREAT defender, just play him at PF/C in the halfcourt like Giannis often does and let him roll like there is no tomorrow. He’s strong enough to bang down low, too. The issue with trading for Simmons and making him a roll guy is assuming he's any good at that skill. Being the roller in the PNR is not as simple just being athletic. He will be below average at best in that role until he gets experience doing it. He doesn't run the PNR as a roller at all. Dwight Powell is a great example of this. For the first few years on the Mavs his #s were awful in the PNR. And then he become an absolute weapon in the PNR. It's a matter of timing, setting the screens in the right spots and how to react to how the defense defends it. That takes time to learn. I think the big difference is Simmons ability to put the ball on the floor. Cannot really double or trap Luka in that case. The Mavs struggled to create something in easy 4vs3 situations. Put Simmons in the short roll position or at the top of the key and he finds the open shooter or takes it to the rim (at least pre Hawks series meltdown). Playing the Draymond role. Agree that he wouldn´t be the traditional lob catching pick and roll threat. I know the article mentions the possibility for RC to be interviewed later on but for all the talk of RC being a top 5 NBA coach you'd think he'd be apart of the first batch of candidates. At least I'd think the Pacers would be motivated to bring in such a big name no? EDIT: In fact RC's name hasn't been mentioned for any head coaching vacancy interviews. For such a pedigree that Carlisle has built, wouldn't POR be interested as well? Seems as if they're moving on without a 2nd thought... Two thoughts: 1) Is it possible Cuban has not released RC from his contract? 2) Is it possible that in this day and age where player friendly coaches are almost essential that coaches like RC are going to become extinct? There is also Option 3) Carlisle is too expensive, which leads back to did Carlisle really just walk away from ~$15M? Option 4) He wants to retire/take a break/waits for a specific job aka you better win the NBA title, bud(dy). Option 5) Not only players have no interest dealing with the strong personality of Carlisle, but neither do (more inexperienced) GMs. RE: AROUND the NBA: Kawhi OUT with injured ACL | CP3 in COVID protocols - michaeltex - 06-22-2021 IF anyone is interested, here are the OKC picks for the next few years FRPs SRPs 2021 3 3 2022 2 1 2023 3 3 2024 3 3 2025 2 4 2026 3 3 2027 1 4 Total 17 21 A lot of teams have problems finding a home for two rookies per year, never mind six. Only one pick this year is lottery eligible and we all know that the farther down you go in pick order, the less likely you are to find a star. IF DAL had a Prez/GM who could do deals, maybe we could help them out with their burgeoning personnel issues. This sort of seems like the negative image of the Stepien rule. Portland is a bad situation, because they basically just got to hire someone that makes Dame happy so that he doesn't demand a trade. Indiana ... they have a young GM that is on thin ice. Does he want to add a huge personality and ego to the building that could undercut him? I think the Bucks were the ideal situation for Carlisle. A veteran lockerroom that has their team already established and isn't worried about adding/retaining key free agents that just needs an X's and Os advantage that gets them over the hump, but thanks to a tweaked Kyrie ankle it looks like Coach Bud could be there for a while. Great stuff here. Most GM's are on the younger side, relative to Carlisle, and many of them might not want such a confident voice working under them. That makes a lot of sense to me. Were I in their place, I wouldn't want to hire anyone who could possibly feel like they were senior to me in their understanding of the business - unless I had a relationship with someone established and believed they wanted to help me succeed for personal reasons, maybe. Also, I keep seeing people speculate that Indiana might be a fallback, but the reason they got rid of the coach there is apparently due to him being a "douche" (to use the parlance of the forum this week) and a tyrant, so regardless of how I feel about Carlisle, I'd say that there is enough smoke about the common opinions of his personality to make that not such a great fit. I agree - Milwaukee was (maybe still is) his play. It's not like he hasn't sat out for a season or two in order to wait for the right job before. I'm sure he's willing to do it again. RE: AROUND the NBA: Kawhi OUT with injured ACL | CP3 in COVID protocols - ItsGoTime - 06-22-2021 Would LaL pass up on Kidd again and get RC? We know LeBron is a fan of his. Not sure how it would play out with his remaining contract status with the Mavs, but almost wonder if his best move isn't to be the right hand man to to Billups or Hammon or some first time head coach for a year or two the way D'Antoni did with Nash. Carlisle also has a daughter than is a couple of years away from graduating high school in Dallas that was reportedly a big reason why he wanted to stay with the Mavs, so he might just sit out for a few years until she graduates and then get back into the search seriously |
