I'd give the nod to Wilt for greatest athlete.

Idk...did you ever see Nick Fazekas run?

Ryan Hollins was a high jumper. Dual sport athlete!

Lakers lost to Boston.  They have a 2 game set against Utah coming up.

Assume Dallas wins the next three, the Mavs vs Lakers 2 game series could pull the Mavs into the 5th spot.

Blazers play the Clippers and Nuggets around the same time.

No they don’t have that chance cause they’ll rest both Luka and KP for both games and we all know how that turns out!

That's incredibly laughable, when you objectively compare him to Wilt. It's not even close.

But in the way his basketball skill derived from his athletic gifts, and how his value is questioned because of issues about winning (in Lebron's case, how he couldn't win until playing on a stacked team of All-Stars), Wilt is a good comparison.

We should be always confident in the ability of this Mavs team to lose to anybody and everybody, even before they get to the Lakers. Sad to say. Lots of growing up is needed imo.

And I didnt do the research...I am only going by a video in which someone tries to analyze the greatest NBA players...

And...Im sure how the video was made and how things were measured are not perfect...

In Ben Taylors series THinking Basketball The Greatest Peak...Ben points out that MJ opted for hero ball instead of the better basketball play often.

Its funny...because everyone on here likes Luka for making good basketball plays.

I think Lebrons ability to guard 1-5 if needed, his size, his IQ and his willingness to make the best basketball play more consistently than Jordan is why I would take Lebron if I was a GM who had something of significant value on the line in making the decision.

Rings, Clutch shooting, killer instinct...you can opt to go that direction.   In a real honest conversation...I think most would agree you are taking on more risk.

I don't agree with this statement.  If I have a chance to put LeBron or Jordan on another player, no matter what position, I would always pick Jordan.  He was a MUCH better defender than LeBron has ever shown in his career.  He did a great job on Derrick Rose in that series, but he's still not Jordan.

After watching the entirety of both guys' careers, there is no metric that would ever make me choose LeBron over Jordan....

Thats fine.

Then give me the guy that can get to the rim at ease for a high efficient layup/dunk or draw a foul for free throws at will.  Not some circus layup.   Give me the guy that can bang low if need be, muscle for rebounds and...most importantly...makes the best basketball play more times than not.  I dont want your hero ball circus layup against bigs.

Of course...when its Jordan all you guys will take hero ball instead of the best basketball play.   Size and strength doesnt matter.   You will take the 12-15 foot 2 shot of Jordans over a LeBron layup.   Nothing matters when talking about Jordan.  But this site talks about the importance of best basketball play all the time and uses numbers/stats to form a strong argument.   Efficiency doesnt matter when talking about Jordan.

The reason Lebron gets so many layups is that the nba is not as physical and the defenses are a lot worse.   Jordan was automatic with his post up fadeaway.  Lebron is not automatic in the way.  He gets his points but Jordan was a sure thing especially in the clutch.  Lets put it this way, scoring 30ppg when scores are under 90 points per game is huge compared to 30ppg when scores are over 110ppg.  And the defense cannot be compared, Jordan was otherworldly on defense, while Lebron is good he cannot dominate in that way.

Yeah...Like LeBron couldnt put up 50 a night if he wanted to.  He gets his teammates involved.  Look no further than Rodman talking about Jordan on the ESPN Jordan Series "He wasnt passing the f***ing ball".

I actually see that as another strike on Jordan.  Todays defenses and athletes will shut down ball hogs in playoffs for the most part.  Passing is how you get good looks.

I get it.  The simiulation doesnt want me to have this argument.   Apparently its not ok for KD and Lebron to be cheap and team up with stars...but its ok to move the goal posts to win an argument.   What a time to be alive.

Besides the obvious differences in legal defensive schemes you act like Jordan couldn´t put up 10 APG, if he wanted to. But makes total sense, when you play one-on-one against a bum defender, to pass the ball to Rodman, Longley or Cartwright. Big Grin

You can probably bump his 5.3 APG average up to 7.5 APG just by the BS way they count assists today, too. The inflation in triple doubles is simply a result of statkeeper shenanigans. Positive stats are a marketing and trade asset nowaydays. Until they start tracking stats via an independent 3rd party, they´ll likely be massively inflated.

You also talk about LeBron always making the best basketball play.

LeBron is not the guy you are saying he is.

Jordan also drive and dunked on physical C’s, forget about the “circus layups”.

You say you can’t have a discussion on this board about the two? Did you watch both players throughout their careers? I’d be willing to bet you have only seen LeBron during his time and watched highlights of Jordan.

LeBrons impact and legacy on the game will be that of bringing the game closer to the WWE than anything else.

You’re 100% right with the WWE comparison. I’ve said that exact thing about LeBron and the current state of the NBA many times to my cousin who’s a Laker homer. He’s the most manufactured superstar in the history of the game. With the possible exceptions of course being Wade and Harden. Jordan is like Hulk Hogan or stone cold and LeBron is like Roman reigns or John Cena.

His original game was (and still is) to get a running start from the wing and dare anyone to take the charge and keep him from scoring. Since he's built like a linebacker, there weren't many willing to take the blow and maybe not even get the call. That bothered me as much as Harden's run down the lane with your arms extended to draw fouls.

His best attribute is that he's moved a TON of merchandise. Of course, he's still 2nd in that to MJ as well.
