RE: AROUND the NBA: Lebron out 4-6 weeks - michaeltex - 03-26-2021

So I saw somewhere in the last couple days that OKC has 24 #1 and 24 #2 picks in the next 7 years. I don't know the timing or protections.

That's 6+ new bodies per year, which no team can absorb. Kind of opposite the CLE issue back in the 70s when they gave away years worth of picks.

They haven't seemed interested in acquiring talent, just selling what little quality players they have for as many picks as possible. What's the game here, wheel and deal leading up to the draft? Keep amassing picks until you have a whole draft to yourself? I guess there is nothing in the bylaws to limit this, but it sure seems like all this hoarding is not good for the league.

Wish ThunderMav was still around.

That’s an impressive lack of self-awareness.

If were the Nets, I would rather go after Olynyk than Drummond as a buy out option.  Drummond would think of himself as the 4th star on the team.    Not someone who just knows his role, does the dirty work and let's their superstars do their superstar things.    Plus, you can't play him on the floor in the 4th quarter with the game on the line, because teams are going to Hack-A-Drummond and take their chances with him on the fouline over that unstoppable offense.

Ya, that quote has me fully out on him. He needs the humbling he's gonna get this offseason before the rest of his career starts.

This might be the end of his career no lie. Even if he goes to the Lakers and has a good playoffs ala Dwight Howard, I still struggle to see any team that will give him more than the MLE.

Agree.

Memphis has released Dieng.   Any interest.  More of a center, so it would probably mean we would let go of our current centers.

Plays defense and can shoot threes. I think it could be an interesting option, but we already have too many centers. I would be surprised Mavs would go after him

That's why I said he's gonna get humbled this offseason and that will trigger the start of his new career, whatever form he takes from there.

Didn't know Luol was still in the league, and he's playing C now? Interesting.

Haven't seen him play a awhile, but I admit that after reading this, Dieng has me thinking. That Powell/WCS spot in the rotation is probably the current team's biggest weakness, imo. Olynyk could help too, as far as I'm concerned.

Me too, I think he is a very good role player. I hope Boston doesn't snatch him

Not Deng, DIENG! Big Grin Tongue

I am 100% out on Drummond for all of the reasons you listed above plus the dude can’t play any defense. If we formed a team he couldn’t protect the rim any of us.

Nice day for Miami.   Bjelinca, Oladipo and possibly Aldridge.  All have big question marks but they get them without giving up any of their young players.  Some decent upside that at least one provides a nice boost down the stretch.

Miami's FO with the Godfather Pat Riley, always manages to pull rabbits out the hat.

Man, I thought you'd be first on the Powell is back bandwagon. I have to admit, I've been impressed with his performance in the last couple games to the point that I kinda wanna see what he has through the rest of the season, since we didn't trade him at the TDL. Dieng would've been a great replacement for him had we done so.

Mind you, I don't think he'll ever get to the point where he's worth his contract. I stayed firm in the camp that didn't like his contract from the beginning. However, I see contributions from him that are Howard/McGee-esque as far as winning contribution (not that they do the same things for their teams, just that they contribute to winning roughly the same amount...IF he keeps this latest trend going).

Yeah, I'm still holding some of my Powell stock. I don't hate him. But, he has been so up and down this season I just don't think you can know what to expect when you put him out there. Maybe he continues to recover and gets over the injury 100%, maybe not. What seems clear is that right now that 8th man (either he or WCS) is where the struggles truly begin. I also like what WCS gives them, sometimes.

RE: AROUND the NBA: Lebron out 4-6 weeks - F Gump - 03-26-2021

Powell is getting minutes now, because WCS is unavailable. And he hustles and provides energy, and produces a little bit in the process. But his ceiling is really low at this point way below his contract. Easily replaced for way less, if he wasn't here.
