I think they'll try to bring Holmes back, but the point is that Dallas could sign him outright with cap space. If they get Holmes to agree to a deal and then go back to Sacramento with that offer, I believe the Kings take it rather than get nothing in return. If they truly hate WCS or Burke, the Mavs could pay a 3rd team to absorb them.

Assuming Mavs dump Powell for cap space and renounce WCS, Mavs would have only 65 million committed, not counting the JRich option. Big question is, how much would it cost to resign JRich and THJ (assuming there is a mutual interest). I estimate JRich comparison contract could be KCP one (40 mil for 3 years), unless he improves dramatically and THJ could be Harris one (some 70 mil for 4 years). That would amount to some 30 mil in first year, leaving Mavs with some 15 mil of cap space. Likely enough for a decent addition like Holmes or fan favorite Oubre. Short for upper tier of available players.
Btw - I haven't seen JRue sign an extension with Bucks yet
Edit: forgot to include OPJ to that roughly 15 (or less) per list

I'm skeptical they can get an expiring for Powell at the deadline. They may be stuck with him and forced to stretch waive in the offseason if they want to use cap space. I'd prefer they find a way to operate over the cap if possible since that allows them to keep the full MLE.
Jrue is worth keeping an eye on for sure. It's a shame he's not a few years younger, but he would be the perfect 2 guard next to Luka.

My thinking on Smart wasn't to bash him at all, other than acknowledging how tough of a season it has been for he and the Celtics. There's a version of him left in the future that's a better fit here in Dallas than Richardson, for example.
But, for the MAGIC??? Dude makes NO sense, whatsoever. Like, at all. That's the point. If they're moving Gordon and/or Fournier, I 100% agree with @"Kammrath" that Brunson looks like a solid gold candy bar to them.

Totally agree Orlando has no use of Smart. But I think it would take considerably more than Brunson to get him from Orlando. If Smart would be put on the market, I think half the league would stand in line for him.

Sorry, I don't quite follow. To get Smart from Orlando? Did you mean from Boston, or do you mean in the event that Smart ends up in Orlando?
I think Smart could be a good fit in Dallas, but he's hardly a target, imo. I DO believe that Brunson is potentially an attractive PART of a package to Orlando for Gordon/Fournier or both. That's all I'm saying.

Right and our opinion is just radically different, believing that Smart is almost "worthless" to ORL and BOS's two 1sts might be the same depending on protections, etc.

He is worthless as a player but not as an asset. Rebuilding team has no use of a player like Smart. They can always flip him.

Just a little more on the Aaron Gordon trade front here. An NBA executive, watching from afar when it comes to the Gordon sweepstakes, says he’s not the only name the Celtics are chasing. If he was, the deal would be done. Executing deals with Boston can be tricky. Offers are often made out of Beantown for players not currently on the Celtics’ roster (meaning a third team has to get involved), which can frustrate colleagues looking to make a big deal. For any team looking to add picks, ultimately those talks are going to have to run through Oklahoma City, which seems to have enough of them to hold its own NBA draft, for a season or two. And what would the Thunder want for its treasure trove of picks? Thus, the conundrum.

Interesting...Pacers want to move the defensive liability. Prefer to keep the DPOY candidat. Can only repeat what @"KillerLeft" has been preaching for the last couple of month. A center that cannot defend in space (or at least protects the rim) is a liability in the modern NBA.
That said: Turner and Brogdon for KP and picks. Make it happen Donnie. No one wants Sabonis.
