Oh, sure, I'm with you. But, for the remainder of this season, who's that starting center in your plan? WCS?

I would.

I think Johnson/Green/Terry are all inconsequential to the team and have no impact on the rotation this year. Both Green and Terry look like they need multiple years and chances to be something. They'd be replaced by 2 high impact guys in Gordon/Fournier. DFS is obviously the hardest piece to let go but if the idea is that Gordon is going to replace him, then theoretically we'd improve right?

Losing Powell as a locker room guy would hurt as well, but being a good guy unfortunately doesn't translate to wins. Burke is there just to salary match and give ORL a PG. He's barely getting minutes right now anyways, and I think Carlisle can find production from any number of vet min guards to spot fill 5mpg.

Mavs also free up some roster spots for buyout guys doing this, and Fournier also makes THJ/JRich expendable in other trades. I wonder if we could use Aminu and flip him to CLE for Drummond in this scenario? I think we'd be hardcapped by salaries though.

I suppose I would, too. I'm a bit too in love with DFS, I guess.

But, I feel like that falls well short of the asking price for Orlando.

I think the lack of the allure of a "1st rounder" kills that deal.

RE: AROUND the NBA: Aaron Gordon has requested a trade - F Gump - 03-22-2021

I think if you trade for Fournier, you might as well trade away Hardaway. Because you know you aren't re-signing both --- might as well use him to get value back while you can.

I was thinking the same, how will Collins and KP coexist.  Probably have to trade KP in the offseason.  But I think there has already been some 3ways talked about already.

Just a few more days.

If we are going to use 19/20 data as a reason to avoid adding offensive talent, then there are other numbers to consider.  One could also observe that the historically awful performance we saw in the clutch is a reason not to load up too much on defensive specialists who are limited offensively.  Seems to me a guy who can roll, post up, hit a mid range and pick and pop a 3 might get us back to being historically good offensively and the added diversity to the offense would help with late game execution at the same time.

There is no question Collins would improve the offense, although at the expense of marginalizing KP by operating in his space and taking some of his touches (in a very similar manner that Powell did).  If our goal is to get back to the best offense in the league with an average defense then trading Maxi + assets for Collins might make sense.  I'm just skeptical that is good enough to make us a contender.  History kind of suggests that you need to have a top 10 defense to win a championship.  Maybe we can break that trend, but I don't see it.  There is a reason we start Maxi and DFS and traded for Richardson (and drafted Green and Bey).  We need to improve defensively in order to become legit contenders, and that kind of trade goes in the wrong direction.

I guess so. I'm sure we'd want a better starting C eventually but those kinds of guys are always available in the offseason for relatively cheap.

If you want Collins and you recognize he does not fit with KP and ready to move on, maybe you trade KP for Collins + Capella?  Then you can start those two and stagger them with Maxi backing up both.  Luka always has a P&R partner, Collins is always on the floor with a good defensive big, and the rebounding should be good.

I would do this gladly. I don't think many of the people here would be excited about it, and I don't know that the Mavs would, either. We also have no idea whether or not ATL is interested in the niche project that is Porzingis.

But sign me up!

Ha! - that's my sleeper deal that would explain the Mavs at the top of the Collins betting odds. Something like ...

KP + Brunson --> ATL
Collins + Capella --> DAL
Rondo or Snell + 2nd --> NYK

I'd be tempted to do that kind of deal but it would only go down if KP has quietly demanded a trade.

Maybe you'd follow that up with James Johnson + pick for Fournier.

Guards/Wings: Doncic - JRich - Fournier - THJ - DFS
Bigs: Collins - Capella - Kleber - WCS

---

Or an even simpler version

KP + DFS + Green/Terry --> ATL
Capela + Collins + Snell --> DAL

RE: AROUND the NBA: Aaron Gordon has requested a trade - SleepingHero - 03-22-2021

If Boston is seriously sending Smart+2 firsts for Gordon/Fournier, there's no way the Mavs can match that.

RE: Boston & Orlando Negotiations

Who is leaking this stuff? Is Orlando leaking this and seeing if anyone in the league will beat this offer before Thursday? Does Boston have any motivation to leak something like this?

I figured Josh Green would count as that "FRP". But I agree the lack of an actual pick being sent probably kills that deal.

True. I think Orlando thinks very highly of Gordon. I think DFS+Green+ spare parts falls short of what they're looking for too.

I am not so sure if you really look closer. Smart's impact is way down this year and I am not sure what kind of value he has to a rebuilding team. Also, what are the protections on the 1sts? That makes a huge difference in their actual value. Especially since BOS would likely get MUCH better in the standings with that influx of talent.

Just saw that. Seems insane from a Boston perspective. Did something happen to marcus smart? I thought he was their team leader.

Seems like Magic propaganda. They seem bent on getting huge value from a desperate team. I think it’s just a matter of time before we hear the mavs have bowed out of the AG sweepstakes

If what I read is true about Capella and non-casual Hawk fans...why would they give up two front court players for an oft injured one?  A unicorn...but oft injured one...and has issues with his teams current #1 offensive talent.

I dont know what you are talking about including in that deal to make it worth Hawks entertaining...but I keep reading that Capella is super important to them.   I guess rebounding and disrupting shots.

Why would they give up a sought after front court player(Collins) plus what some of their fans say is a super important front court player(Capella) for an oft injured front court player(KP)?

Seems like you would be weakening that team and they would be requiring you to back up the truck with assets.

The team is playing better when he sits this year and something is broken in the BOS chemistry. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Smart's career basically tank from here. I am not sure his value moving forward except as a bench vet on a contender....which ORL is not.

Yes. I'm not super plugged in on Orlando's situation, but I'm scratching my head as to why they'd want Smart. The only thing he's going to do in Orlando is bitch and moan until they send him to a good team, and the good teams aren't going to want to pay much for him.

If I were them, I'd actually prefer Green, tbh. But, if they believe they can actually get Brown?
