Seith Curry was a much bigger loss and bigger piece for this team than I think anyone realize.

An underrated part of his game was his ability to facilitate and run the offense

I think the Mavericks focused to much on Defense and may have broken the offense.

I am still not a big fan of KP right now and feel this current collection of players may not be the best fit.

If those two collectively made one more three per game (without taking any more) they would be shooting 36.7% collectively from three. The team's offensive rating and net rating would increase to 10th in the league from 16th. The Mavs would possibly be 10-7 instead of 8-9.

Yeah, and really, the team is built around the idea that KP is going to shoot a really high percentage, not just a decent one.

Bingo

Rick is architecting this offense as if KP is as efficient as Dirk and that is not the case. KP in some instances is a high volume scorer.

Same. He wrote some pretty insightful pieces on the whole Trae Young - John Collins situation in Atlanta.

Very true.  They also may have gotten the rebound and scored on the trip anyway.  Or the miss could have encouraged Luca to focus more on mid range.  Hard to say.  As Parcells said “you are what your record says you are”.

There's the problem with the offense.

It seems to me despite the rhetoric otherwise, that the team is struggling to find itself because half its rotation has been on covid relief. To assume anything else is simply foolish at this point until this team is completely healthy.

WTF that's terrible.  He lost a shit ton of weight a few years ago.  Only in his 40s.

Whew! Good thing not one single person has assumed anything, then!

I can see a case for it, but I'm not sure. I think I'd give Richardson until the TDL to fit in, personally.

I think I'd do it with the knowledge we'd probably be worse in the long term.  I'd also have to have a long fucking talk with Carlisle to make sure he doesn't dog house the guy.

If you think it would make the team worse, what’s your thinking when pulling the trigger?

Except for the running the offense part I agree. The Mavs underrated the effect his shooting greatness had on the overall spacing for Luka and moreso Porzingis. I don´t think they necessarily overcorrected on the defense end, but they need to realize they are one great player and one very good roleplaying shooter short. Therefore all the talk about adding another guy like Aaron Gordon is so misplaced imho. We already have too many guys that can´t shoot. We simply need a guy that can make life easier for everybody else.

Always comes back to Zach Lavine and Bradley Beal. Lavine is now shooting almost 50/40/90 for the season, as the sole focus of the Bulls offense. Beal is not far behind percentage-wise putting up 35 PPG. We simply need to move all-in and get one of them next summer. They´ll have to demand the Mavs trade and go nuclear like Harden to drive the price in our direction. I know the behaviour stinks, but better be on the right side of it now, before Luka does it to us in three years.

Little off-topic: That Porzingis for Brown/Smart trade idea would look pretty good like now. I wanted to go so hard after Brown in RFA with a max offer and then he prematurely extended his contract. I still think he´d have been the perfect Pippen for Luka and even I didn´t see this explosion coming.

Typed that wrong.  He'd make us worse in the short term but if you think he's the third pillar and can develop, he's more of a long term play.

Can his shot be fixed?  Can you take some of the sizzle out of his passing?  Can he survive being a PG in Carlisle's system.

With the crazy amounts of picks being thrown around, I just don't see us having the ammo to get either of those guys.

Brown/Smart would be interesting but that would leave us with Maxi as the only quality big. Sure would make for interesting shopping in the offseason.

Andre Drummond getting bought out while averaging a near 20/20 and going to play for the minimum would be insane.

Lavine hasn't made it easy to be a bargain trade route.

He probably will cost way too much at this point. Maybe next year when he's expiring and the threat of him leaving will motivate CHI to trade him to not lose value.
