Game 8 Dirkie Thread: LUKA! - ballsrchr - 11-06-2024 Alright! Seems like we have a plethora of choices for this game. I continue to like it when the benches are cleared. The starters get some rest, and the bench warmers get some experience. Good for the team. Hard choice! Luka generally could be the winner most nights. Same for Kyrie. I gotta say that Kyrie seemed to settle the team when it was sputtering a bit. He is the little motor who could... Gafford is once again doing really good...and making our choice harder... How about Dwight Powell? He played some meaningful minutes and rested Gafford for the most part. Ah well...Dealer's choice. I'm going with...Kyrie! RE: Game 8 Dirkie Thread: - ThisIStheYear - 11-06-2024 Tough one. Eye test says Luka, but he missed a lot of shots and had a lot of turnovers. Statistical test says Gafford. I went with Gaff since it’s close, and I usually reserve my Luka votes for truly great performances. Nice all around game for the team. They’ve really put the hammer down on bad teams this year, just need to get better against good teams. RE: Game 8 Dirkie Thread: - KillerLeft - 11-07-2024 I have to go with Luka. +35 in only 32 minutes is pretty crazy. RE: Game 8 Dirkie Thread: - michaeltex - 11-07-2024 I'm going with Kyrie. His early game involvement got the Mavs momentum going in the right direction so the team was playing with a lead instead of trying to dig out of a hole. IMO, that freed eveyone up to engage and have fun. I will add that Ky didn't try to push his domination, but once the rest of the team got involved he was happy to step back and play within the rhythm of the team. A couple of observations from garbage time... I know he still has a way to go, but when you see OMax's size and the way he moves you can understand why he's worth developing. Actually seems to have some touch around the basket and is big enough to take the contact. Was happy to see Gortman get his first NBA basket. Looked very comfortable taking the shot. But he should have been, up 25-ish and the game basically over. He looked so positive in the pre-season, IIRC he showed some defensive tenacity, that I'm interested in seeing how he performs in a real game. Yeah, I feel like this game kind of highlighted the difference between Luka and Kyrie. Kyrie played well but when he was saddled with an injury depleted bench unit they really struggled, even against a team that was not playing well. When he was subbed out for Luka it completely changed. I'm not sure there is anyone in the NBA right now that can raise the level of play with limited talent next to him (like he has had to do for a big chunk of his career here) to the degree that Luka can. RE: Game 8 Dirkie Thread: - Reunion Mav - 11-07-2024 I agree on Luka. Gafford is doing great and Kyrie is incredible sometimes but Luka’s set up passing and ability to score any time he wants is simply all time great. |
