LOL, I thought about you when I read that one.
Smile I just hate this kind of articles. Just looks like he has some kind of quota to fulfill, because there is absolutely no information in it.

I tend to agree with you and 15th.  Not much meat in this particular “story”.  However, it is probably worth noting when Mike posts about a player on multiple occasions.  Thinking through what he’s written the last few years, the vast majority of his scoops have been to shoot down the ideas of others.  There is certainly value there, but it isn’t very fulfilling.  It is pretty easy to go to a source and say “we looking at Player X”?  Source:  “No”.  Post the story.

That’s not to say he hasn’t had a name in advance of an event in the past.  He was right about Jordan.  He was right about Kemba.  So, it appears to me that someone in the Mav’s world did NOT say no when Mike asked about Covington.  They might have gone as far as to say “yeah, we like him”.  I doubt seriously they got into what the structure of a deal might look like.  Bottom line...Mike writing about Covington on multiple occasions has positive implications.  It doesn’t mean a deal will get done.  But it probably confirms interest and confirming interest tells us something about direction.

BTW, framework of a Covington deal isn’t to hard to imagine.  Covington fits the TPE.  Lee provides an expiring deal that covers Dieng.  The problem is that puts Dallas $3mm over the tax.  Easy fix is to send out Jackson at $3.2mm (probably the GSW #2 also).  Minnesota is then a major player in cap space in 2020 and gets a couple of minor pieces in Jackson and the high #2.

The issue isn’t whether Minnesota will do such a deal.  The issue is competitive offers.

Doubt it, everything I've read is they want a PG. Also, they're trying to get a bidding war going for him. I think they want players to replace him, not cap space as Min isn't a destination city that gets FA all that much. However, of course count me in if this is all they want. I'd give them Brunson as well if the PG thing is the hangup. That allows them $1.4M less in cap space, and a player that might mesh well with their group being an older high end College PG and someone who doesn't need to score a lot.

They all speak serbo-croatian (or as now called serbian and croatian, but same language really), they all have yugoslavian roots. That is the most likely explanation. But there might be more to it. Remember how Luka and KP were talking a lot last season after the Knicks game?

Bogdanovic can really shoot. No doubt about it. He would be great addition, but getting a two way player would be even better. At the moment Luka is absorbing all the pressure and getting double teams. Most of the team is getting great open shots and opportunities. Getting in shooters that punish that is a great idea. But we also need to think of defense. Kleber and KP fullfill that role compeltely. Can shoot, can play D. Need to add ore of that and also more playmaking when Luka is doubled you want to have secondary playmakers. Bogdanovic could add something there as well.

Good trade for Atlanta. Maybe we should ask for RoCo now if Minnesota is making a trade like this.

Agree. All contracts are expiring, but Atlanta can use both guys while Crabbe worth is close to zero. Minny just saved a couple of millions.

Do dominos start falling now that the first big-ish trade of the season has happened? How quickly does Min need a PG now? Seems like blood is in the water at this point.

A Brunson swap for a wing like Covington just makes too much sense
For us at least

The best way to create value for Minny I can come up with is:

Dieng for Lee + Brunson + GS 2nd

Roco absorbed into the trade exception

Unfortunately we really don't have much else to offer.

Another avenue could be sending someone like Wright/Curry/Kleber in another deal to create value but I doubt we'd go that far.

SG: Doncic
SF: Covington
PF: Porzingis

is REALLY intrigueing though. There's no denying that.

I'd do that first trade all day, every day
And Dieng would fill in nicely on days KP is sitting.
Not quite as eager to part with Wright/Curry/Maxi especially Maxi.

That first trade is what I think would be the goal, but I wonder how much value JB has? I feel DW has more and is why I've included him in trades with Min. If all they want is JB, but want more value for RoCo (understandably so), also looking at the Teague deal as a money saving deal, that first trade you proposed I think is the right framework.

I still think they'd want more value out of RoCo though. That's mostly why I've been including JJ in my proposals. JJ gives them a wing numbers swap so they can keep the most important role in the NBA stocked.

In the deal, it would probably be TE and GSW 2nd for RoCo (maybe add the max in money that can be traded as value too? Haven't seen that angle is a while.). Then in the first part of the trade I would add a lesser valued low end guy on Min's roster like Naz Reid just so the # of players isn't so lopsided when we trade Lee, JB and JJ for Dieng and Reid.

Ya, CP for Wiggins? Not a horrible possibility. Although they are saying they want to keep their young core guys in tact. That kinda says RoCo to LA for Kuzma and Rondo to me as well.

I find it odd that they would be ok with "bad money" if they aren't getting rid of Wiggins who is also "bad money".

RE: NBA Trade Rumors (New Drummond trade updates page 25) - ThunderMav - 01-16-2020

^^^  they were saying Atlanta...

I still doubt CP gets moved this year.  It has to be viable contender and would take some crafty cap and other work to make happen

Lol

Bog is statistically better as a defender than an offender. He is top ten for SGs in DRPM with +1.69. His raw on/off defensive number is +2.8 and he was a positive last season as well.

I'm glad Dallas inquired, but given the post above yours, if the Wolves want D'Angelo, then kiss RoCo goodbye.
